Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for plant operations.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot all areas, optimize processes, and design/develop capital projects.
  • Collaborate with operators and engineers to address problems and propose process improvements.
  • Work with supervisors and operators on small projects to size equipment.
  • Support catalysts and chemical bidding; contact vendors for information.
  • Plan unit shutdowns and startups; run performance tests as needed.
  • Track performance data with spreadsheets and share with vendors.
  • Coordinate with Project Engineering for expansions; provide data to vendors.
  • Assist in monitoring TDC/APC control systems for better monitoring.
  • Research upcoming technology changes for future nitrogen plant strategies.
  • Provide after-hours and turnaround support as needed.
  • Keep supervisor informed of progress with reports.

Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

The incumbent at this level receives “on-the-job” training in various phases of engineering through specific assignments under close supervision. Tasks are routine in nature to provide experience and familiarization with the staff, engineering methods, practices and programs of the company. Work is reviewed for accuracy, adequacy and conformance with prescribed procedures.

The Process Engineer II will aid the Engineer Supervisor in monitoring unit operations. Assignments will include small project design to increase productivity and efficiency of the Nitrogen Plant; assistance to Project Engineering, outside consultants and firms monitoring for efficiency and expansion purposes, and; contribute to planning and strategies for process improvements & optimization.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Petroleum Engineering required; Chemical Engineering Degree preferred
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • 4+ years of relevant work experience required.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Provide technical support for the plant operations.
  • Will have responsibilities of daily monitoring and troubleshooting of all the areas, process optimization, design and development of capital projects.
  • Work in a team environment with operators and engineers to maintain and troubleshoot problems as well as propose applications for the process units.
  • Work directly with other supervisors and operators on small project scopes in order to receive appropriate design and size of equipment needed.
  • Provide support for process catalysts and chemicals bidding. Contact vendors for information and to provide vendors with appropriate information.
  • Assist in the planning of unit shutdowns and startups. Administer plant performance test runs as needed, provide any operational data or drawings required to vendors or maintenance if needed.
  • Track performance data using spreadsheets or providing information to vendors.
  • Provide information to Project Engineering for expansion purposes. Collect lab data or operation data to provide to Project Engineering group or outside vendors.
  • Work with computer personnel with TDC/APC control system to help improve monitoring.
  • Research and monitor upcoming technology changes to improve future strategies within the nitrogen plant.
  • Provide after hours and turnaround support as needed in support of maintenance and operations.
  • Consistently keep supervisor advised of progress via oral and written reports.
  • Exposure to work near potentially volatile and combustible materials and chemicals.
