Job summary

GLOBAL LANGUAGE STRATEGIES is seeking a professional freelance English→Spanish translator, editor, and/or transcriber for remote work. Candidates must be a U.S. citizen willing to obtain security clearance and fingerprinting, with at least two years of legal translation/editing experience and relevant certifications.

Availability of 15+ hours per week is required. Responsibilities include translating, editing, and/or transcribing legal documents and audio, adhering to government style guides,

Qualifications

• U.S. citizenship and eligibility for security clearance including fingerprinting.
• Minimum two years of experience translating and editing legal documents.
• Certification by ATA, NAJIT or ProZ for English→Spanish.

Responsibilities

• Translate, edit, and/or transcribe English to Spanish legal documents and audio with high accuracy.
• Edit affidavits, depositions, and related materials using strong legal terminology in both languages.
• Maintain excellent written English and Spanish, with ILR-level proficiency expectations.
• Follow government client style guides and quality standards.
• Apply domain-specific terminology and mirror source formats in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Review and certify others’ translations as needed.
• Utilize MS Office and CAT tools to support document formatting.

Certified English to Spanish - Legal Documentation Translator, Editor, and/or Transcriber (Remote)

*Status: Freelance Contractor / As needed

*Requirements: U.S. Citizenship Global Language Strategies, a language service provider headquartered in the Washington, D.C. Region, is currently seeking a professional freelance linguist to translate, edit, and/or transcribe legal documents from English to Spanish. This is a remote position, as needed.

Job Duties

• Provide accurate translation, editing of documents, and/or transcription of audio files involving law enforcement and legal subject matter from English to Spanish
• Edit legal documents, such as affidavits, depositions, etc., while demonstrating a strong command of legal terminology in both English and the target language
• Excellent written communication skills in English and the target foreign language, with Advanced Proficiency (reading/speaking/listening, writing) level 3-plus in English and the foreign target language, as assessed by the International Language Roundtable (ILR) scale
• Translate, edit, and/or transcribe following the government client’s style guides and quality standards
• Use domain-specific terminology
• Review and certify other translators’ work quality, as needed
• Highly proficient in MS Office, with the ability to mirror source document format in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Familiar with the use of CAT tools, such as Trados Studio

Requirements

1. 1. A U.S. citizen willing to process and complete the required documentation in order to obtain a U.S. security clearance, including fingerprinting.
2. 2. At least two years of experience translating and editing legal documentation.
3. 3. ATA, NAJIT, ProZ certified. - English to Spanish.
4. 4. Available at least 15 hours per week to accept assignments.
