Job description

General Summary

The English Department seeks a dedicated, dynamic, and experienced teacher for its Upper OR Middle School English program (applicants should have experience in either Middle or Upper School, or both). Under the general supervision of the applicable division head, the English Teacher is responsible for the instructional program, general operations, and management of their assigned class or program. This position involves building on the academic foundations established at earlier grade levels, developing lesson plans, advising students, and designing independent learning exercises, materials, curricula, and methods that consider the needs of individual children and the whole-group dynamic.

Essential Duties
  • Teaches classes as assigned, providing effective and professional instruction, assessment, and management;
  • Designs and implements curriculum and instruction aligned with the school's mission, values, and standards;
  • Ensures the classroom environment, lessons, and materials foster diversity, inclusion, and belonging;
  • Assesses students to evaluate their abilities, strengths, and weaknesses;
  • Grades assignments and exams, fostering student confidence, independence, and accountability;
  • Collaborates with colleagues on curriculum development and instructional strategies;
  • Establishes effective communication and relationships with students and parents;
  • Demonstrates a growth mindset and pursues professional development;
  • Maintains school policies, protocols, and expectations;
  • Builds professional relationships with faculty, staff, and community partners for student benefit;
  • Participates in non-classroom activities such as parent conferences, faculty meetings, retreats, field trips, and events;
  • Supervises students outside of class to promote safety and a positive school environment;
  • Completes reports and tasks in a timely and professional manner;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in teaching or a related field is required. A Master's degree or higher is preferred. A minimum of three years of teaching experience is necessary.

Special Requirements
  • Ability to complete a background check;
  • Native fluency for language teachers.
