Montgomery County Intermediate Unit is seeking an English Teacher to work with high school students at the Southeast Youth Development Center, including youth with special education needs and behavioral challenges. Qualifications

A vacancy exists for an English Teacher to work within the Office of Student Services at the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit. The English Teacher provides instruction to high school level students from varied backgrounds, including students identified as in need of special education, students with severe behavioral and emotional challenges, and incarcerated/adjudicated youth and young adults. This classroom is located at the MCIU's South East Youth Development Center, located at 1200 Mokychic Rd. Collegeville, PA 19426, on the grounds of the SCI Phoenix Correctional Facility.

Qualifications

• Valid PA certification in Special Education (PK-12 or 7-12) preferred
• Ability to work as a member of a team.
• Must be courteous and able to deal effectively with people.
• Must be cooperative, congenial, and self-motivated.
• Ability to work in an environment that could involve physically aggressive students.
• Ability to complete task and run a classroom with minimal supervision.
• Original certificates of clearance from the State Police, Child Abuse Registry, and PDE FBI.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide an appropriate program of education and training for the student.
• Utilize the abilities, skills and talents of all members of team to the fullest in educating the students.
• Administer individual diagnostic tests to assess the students' educational achievement.
• Utilize cumulative records on each child to assist in planning teaching stratagem.
• Participate in mental health student group discussion, where required as part of the educational program.
• Provide classroom management based on principles of child development and behavior modification techniques.
• Submit quarterly student progress reports to parent and district of residence administrator.
• Work effectively with the all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
• Develop professional relationships and a supportive climate which facilitates mainstreaming the student.
• Make referrals through supervisor for ancillary services including testing.
• Keep up to date attendance records and child tracking data on each enrolled student.
• Assume additional duties as assigned by program supervisor.

Location

This classroom is located at the MCIU's South East Youth Development Center, located at 1200 Mokychic Rd. Collegeville, PA 19426, on the grounds of the SCI Phoenix Correctional Facility.

Work Schedule

7.5 hours/day, 11 months (194 days/year). This position follows a modified 11 month schedule which includes some Fridays off during the school year.

Bachelor's, Step 2: $56,694
Master's, Step 2: $68,008
Master's+30, Step 2: $74,995/year
