Connections Academy is seeking an ESL Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year, responsible for overseeing ESL instructional programs in a virtual environment. The role requires strong communication skills and a current Utah teaching license with an ESL endorsement, with a focus on individual student support and collaboration with classroom teachers.

Utah Connections Academy (UCA) is a tuition-free, online public school that serves students in grades K–12 throughout Utah. UCA is authorized under state law by the Utah State Charter School Board and governed by an independent Board of Directors. The school is operated by Utah Connections Academy, a nonprofit corporation, through a contract with Connections Academy of Utah, LLC, to provide its educational program and other services. UCA is accredited by the Northwest Accreditation Commission, an accrediting division of AdvancED.

Position Summary and Responsibilities:
Accepting applications for the 2025-2026 school year. Working from your home office in Utah the English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher will oversee instructional programs for ESL students as they utilize online instruction and materials in a virtual environment. Through the use of the telephone, Internet, and various educational resources, the ESL teacher will communicate regularly with parents, students, and general education classroom teachers, and to ensure that ESL students are supported and direct instruction techniques are devised to ensure that each child successfully completes their instructional program.
The ESL Teacher will be responsible for the successful completion of the following tasks:
● Utilize the WIDA Screener and ACCESS scores to plan instruction, form instructional groups, make individualized learning plans for ELL students
● Collaborate with classroom teachers to devise targeted lessons for struggling ELL students;
● Provide individual and small group instruction for identified students;
● Assist with the administration of WIDA and RISE/ASPIRE tests and benchmark tests that UCA utilizes
● Confer with the leadership team on the needs of students and provide suggestions for effective interventions and strategies;
● Act as a mentoring teacher to regular classroom teachers by assisting them in implementing teaching techniques to ensure the instructional program relates to the needs of the students;
● Provide information to parents and advise parents of student progress;
● Support the instruction program with asynchronous web conferencing sessions and synchronous instruction;
● Keep student records and data up-to-date, including cumulative files, online student and family information, attendance at lessons, grading, and logging all student and parent contacts;
● Oversee the use of an EL supplemental instructional program use and its effectiveness
● Administer state testing; and
● Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
● Current Utah teaching license with an ESL endorsement is required.
● Priority will be given to the candidates who live in Utah.
● Candidates in the surrounding states are encouraged to apply (Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, and Wyoming).
● Strong technology skills (especially with Google products)
● Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

● Willingness to travel overnight, on occasion, for school and state testing events.
