POSITION SPECIFICS

We seek a Manufacturing Technology Engineering Technologist to join the Manufacturing Engineering Technology team at Penn State's Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) in Freeport, PA. You will work with scientists, engineers, and technicians on applied research projects involving electro-optical, electro-mechanical, and electronic manufacturing technology.

ARL is a DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes transitioning military members to apply.

Responsibilities
  1. Apply knowledge of electro-optical, electronic, mechanical, and engineering principles.
  2. Collaborate with engineering staff and senior technologists to develop requirements for engineering products.
  3. Perform design, development, fabrication, and installation of electrical, mechanical, and software subsystems.
  4. Research and recommend new engineering products and tooling.
  5. Develop and execute tests, analyze results, and suggest modifications.
  6. Collaborate with other engineers, scientists, and industry partners to meet project goals.
  7. Document work and present findings to various audiences.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Understanding of electro-optic, electronics, and manufacturing technologies.
  • Experience with 3D modeling software.
  • Ability to develop and modify CNC programming.
  • Knowledge of PID control and theory.
  • Experience with robotic motion and control.
  • Effective communication and documentation skills.
  • Eligibility for Secret Clearance.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30%.
Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Experience with CNC tool path generation.
  • Deep understanding of electro-optics and electronics manufacturing.
  • Hands-on experience with integrated electro-optic or electronic/mechanical systems.
  • Excellent communication skills for technical audiences.
  • Active Secret or TS/SCI security clearance preferred.
  • Degree in Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology.

  • 1+ years relevant experience

Background Checks & Clearances

Salary & Benefits

Salary range: $61,800 - $89,600, with possible geographic adjustments. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, retirement, paid time off, and a 75% tuition discount for employees and their families.
