Job summary

Job description

THOR Solutions is actively seeking an ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN V (Electrical Controls) with U.S. Navy shipboard experience to provide full-time support for U.S. Naval shipboard equipment at the Southwest Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC) in San Diego, CA.

In this role, you will be part of a waterfront team that provides direct engineering and technical support to the U.S. Navy Pacific Fleet, helping keep shipboard systems reliable and mission-ready. Working alongside Navy personnel aboard ships and at regional maintenance facilities, you will apply your technical expertise to troubleshoot equipment, support maintenance and assessments, and train Ship's Force to improve Fleet self-sufficiency and readiness. This is an opportunity to contribute to a high-impact mission that directly supports the safety and combat readiness of our Fleet.

This position is contingent upon contract award, anticipated for February 2027.

Typical Responsibilities:
  • Provide Full-Time Onsite Support as well as Surge Support as tasked for the following Code 265 cognizant equipment.
  • Serve as a senior Subject Matter Expert (SME) and lead for assessment teams and Fleet Technical Assistance teams on-site or via distance support as required, to include engineering/technical evaluations, equipment functional checks, troubleshooting, test, analysis, and provide technical guidance and over-the-shoulder direction for adjustments and repairs to the maximum extent possible during the time available.
  • Conduct pre-job briefings and report equipment readiness status.
  • Assist with technical input and preparation of DFS and ESR responses.
  • Deliver TAVRs and ship-visit debriefs
Location:

Full time onsite at the SWRMC in San Diego, CA.

Typical Physical Activity:

Mix of desk/computer work in an office environment and visits to waterfront/shipboard environments. May involve: repetitive motion, traversing shipboard environments (e.g. confined spaces, ladders, hatches), or vision..

Anticipated Travel:

This position involves up to 10% travel, including travel to overseas/OCONUS locations.

Typical Pay Range:

The anticipated pay for this position in the identified location(s) is $39.78/hour. Actual compensation offered will be based upon individual factors including education, qualifications, and experience. This position is covered under the Service Contract Act (SCA) and will additionally receive $5.09/hour in "health and welfare" benefits.

Existing SECRET Security Clearance Required:

This position requires an existing active or interim Secret security clearance prior to hire. Only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance; therefore, only current U.S. citizens will be considered for this position. A candidate without a clearance but with highly relevant experience may be considered, but still must obtain a clearance prior to hire.

Required Education, Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
  • High school diploma/GED equivalent.
  • At least three (3) to five (5) years of recent, relevant hands‑on experience within the last seven (7) years in the operation, troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and assessing of U.S. Navy Electrical Control Systems including, but not limited to:
    • Cables; power and lighting circuits (4160 VAC, 1000 VDC, 450 VAC, 115 VAC); marine electrical systems; transformers; SSDG/MPDE controls; generator sets and exciters; electric/digital/hydraulic governor and synchronizer controls; propulsion generators, motors, Auxiliary Propulsion Motors (APM), and Hybrid Electric Drive System (HEDS) and controls; battery chargers, power supplies, line-voltage regulators, UPS, and batteries; auxiliary motors and controls; Electric/electronic control, detection, alarm sensing, indicating, and monitoring systems and equipment; and switchgear including instrumentation, controls, circuit breakers, reverse-power relays, load shedding devices, Multi-Function Monitoring (MFM), Generator Protection Module (GPM), and No Break Power Supply (NBPS).
  • Ability to support Machinery Control Systems on DDG 1000, LPD 17, and LSD 47 class ships and ballast/deballast control systems on LPD 17, LSD 47, LHD 1, and LHD 8 class ships.
  • Ability toutilizecomputers including the Microsoft Office Suite for compiling information for reports and history files and transfer digital pictures from camera to computer and enhance asrequiredand label them for report purposes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
Required Certifications/Trainings or ability to obtain within 60 and 180 days of providing direct support:
  • Marine Electric Propulsion/High-Voltage Electrical Safety training by MEBA. Required prior to support 4160 VAC IR-survey tasking.
  • CPR certification
  • OSHA 10-hour Maritime training within 90 days
