Note: This position is covered by the McNamara-O’Hara Service Contract Act (SCA) and is subject to applicable U.S. Department of Labor wage determinations. Compensation, fringe benefits, and paid leave are provided in accordance with the SCA wage determination incorporated into the governing federal contract. The minimum hourly wage and health & welfare fringe benefits may be adjusted with contract modifications or updated wage determinations.

Impact Summary
The Engineering Technician V will serve as a technical expert, providing critical support to the design, development, substantiation, and documentation of complex aircraft modifications and prototype systems for military and civilian aircraft. The role requires advanced problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt designs to meet unique specifications and challenging performance criteria. Successful candidates will contribute to the development and improvement of engineering solutions that meet current and future needs.
Responsibilities
- Develop, design, and construct major units, devices, or equipment, ensuring all project specifications and performance requirements are met.
- Conduct thorough experiments and tests, analyze results, and modify equipment design to enhance performance, documenting findings and generating detailed reports.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve technical issues and coordinate project activities.
- Apply expert knowledge of ASME Y14.x series concepts and demonstrate fluent Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to ensure design accuracy, clarity, and manufacturability.
- Independently produce high-quality drawings for aircraft modifications including bracket/adapter and assembly drawings, complete and clear notes, flag notes, and references per standards and specifications.
- Utilize PTC Creo for advanced 3D parametric modeling, large assembly management, sheet metal design, and detailed 2D drawings, including wire routing and harness designs.
- Perform comprehensive 2D and 3D digital wire routing and harness design, creating installation drawings in compliance with aerospace wiring standards, bend radii, and separation requirements.
- Research, interpret, and integrate existing aircraft technical data from repositories including AVPLM, IETMS, and V-22 systems, as well as OEM documentation.
- Manage engineering data and documentation within PTC Windchill, ensuring configuration control, revision management, lifecycle adherence, and processing of ECPs/ECNs.
- Develop and revise complex engineering drawings, 3D models, and documentation for aircraft structural modifications, system installations, and prototype components.
- Select and adapt plans, techniques, designs, or layouts for engineering projects.
- Review, analyze, and integrate the technical work of others to ensure consistency with project requirements.
- Prepare detailed specifications, layouts, parts lists, cost estimates, and procedural guidelines for projects.
- Collaborate with engineers, structural analysts, manufacturing personnel, and field artisans to resolve complex technical issues, conduct fit checks, and ensure successful installation and integration of modifications.
- Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and quality review to junior technicians on drafting standards, CAD best practices, GD&T, and modification procedures.
- Support structural analysis by preparing geometry, fastener patterns, and material callouts for review and substantiation.

Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 9 years’ recent experience in a similar engineering role.
- Significant experience in aircraft modification within Naval or DoW industry.
- Experience planning, designing, and executing engineering projects.
- Skilled in using analytical instruments and interpreting test results.
- Proficiency in GD&T for aircraft and modification parts, including interpretation and critique of GD&T to balance manufacturability, inspection feasibility, and fit in aircraft environments.
- Ability to translate sketches and concepts into detailed drawings and manage revision control.
- Experience creating comprehensive 2D and 3D wire routing documentation, including harness models and installation drawings complying with wiring standards.
- Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems like PTC Windchill for configuration control and data management, and using data from repositories such as AVPLM, IETMS, or V-22.
- Proficiency in PTC Creo for complex 3D modeling and 2D drawing generation.
- Experience with PLM systems for managing engineering data and changes in government or aerospace environments.
- Experience designing rack and box mounting solutions with considerations for strain relief, EMI/EMC, and maintainability.
- Direct on-aircraft support experience in hangar and depot environments to capture as-built conditions and update models/drawings is desirable.
- U.S. citizen able to obtain a SECRET security clearance.
Travel
- Travel may be required up to 5% of the time.

Salary Information
The estimated salary range for this position will be $43.61 - $62.50 per hour based on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and skill set.
