Job summary

Dormont Manufacturing Co in Norfolk, VA is seeking an Engineering Technician IV to support waterfront shipboard construction and modernization aboard U.S. Naval ships.

The role involves working in varying temperatures and climates, with duties spanning installation, maintenance, and testing of electrical, electronic and mechanical systems. You will troubleshoot complex problems, modify circuitry for improved performance, and provide operation instructions to customer personnel.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of related experience.

  • Experience with electrical, electronic, and mechanical equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, maintains, repairs, overhauls, troubleshoots, modifies, constructs and tests electrical/electronic/mechanical equipment.
  • Applies electronics principles to put equipment in operational condition and solve problems.
  • Troubleshoots malfunctions using specialized test and diagnostic equipment.
  • Modifies circuitry to improve performance.
  • Provides operation/maintenance instructions to customer personnel.
  • Prepares operating and malfunction reports and related documentation.
  • Works with engineering staff to solve equipment design problems.
  • Performs quality assurance testing of assemblies and equipment.
  • Provides work leadership to less-experienced technicians.
  • Maintains knowledge of relevant technologies and participates in special projects.
  • Installation and maintenance of Fiber Optic cables aboard naval ships.
  • Splice and terminate fiber optic cables.
  • Perform fiber tests: OTDR, power meter/laser source, scopes.

Job Description: This is a waterfront shipboard construction and re-modernization position, working within shipyards and drydocks aboard U.S. Naval ships. The incumbent will be working in varying temperatures of high heat in the summer and cold in the winter performing the following tasks:

  1. Installs, maintains, repairs, overhauls, troubleshoots, modifies, constructs and tests various types of electrical, electronic, and/or mechanical equipment and related devices.
  2. Applies technical knowledge of electronics principles in order to put equipment in operational condition and solve complex problems.
  3. Troubleshoots and corrects malfunctions using specialized test and diagnostic equipment.
  4. Modifies circuitry to improve performance.
  5. Makes recommendations for improvements or modifications to correct problems.
  6. Provides operation/maintenance instruction to customer personnel.
  7. Prepares operating and malfunction reports and related documentation.
  8. Works with engineering staff to determine and solve equipment design problems.
  9. Performs quality assurance testing of assemblies and equipment fabricated by other technicians.
  10. Provides work leadership to less-experienced technicians.
  11. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned.
  12. Participates in special projects as required.
  13. Installation and maintenance of Fiber Optic cables aboard naval ships.
  14. Splice and Terminate fiber optic cables.
  15. Perform fiber tests: OTDR, power meter/laser source, and scopes.

Required Certifications:

  • Cableway Certified, Connector Certified Modular, COAX, Multi-Pin, Connector Fabricator and Inspector, Connector Trained and Qualified with 40 hours OJT.
  • Fiber Optic Cable Handling, Pulling, Forming/Shaping, BOF, Single/Multi, Optical Testing, Fusion Splicing Supervisor & QA, BOF Licensed Installer. WAF Tagout qualified.

Location: USA, VA, Norfolk

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40

Travel Required: 10-25%
