Responsibilities

  • Assemble or construct simple or standard equipment or parts per instructions.
  • Maintain and install mechanical and instrumentation components such as strain gauges, transducers, thermocouples, load cells, hydraulic actuators, tubing.
  • Conduct tests, prepare specimens, record data, and note deviations.
  • Extract and process engineering data from prescribed sources; present data as required.
  • Perform instrumentation applications, data collection, and basic electrical tasks.
  • Assist with handling and operation of test articles; support team members.

RSi is looking to fill an Engineering Technician III(Service Contract Act (SCA) Occupation Code 30082)position to support our NASAcustomer on the Marshall Engineering Technicians and Trades Support contract (METTS). This position is in direct support of the Structural Strength Test Branch on Marshall Space Flight Center by providing technical support to engineers.

This position may require occasional overtime and may include second or third shift support for 24/7 onsite or on-call support based on customer needs and contract requirements.

Summary of duties include but are not limited to:

  • Following specific instructions, assembles or constructs simple or standard equipment or parts, servicing or repairing simple instruments or equipment
  • Performing routine maintenance, installation/integration of various types of mechanical and instrumentation components such as strain gauges, pressure transducers, thermocouples, load cells, hydraulic actuators, tubing, etc.
  • Conducting a variety of tests using established methods, preparing test specimens, adjusting and operating equipment, recording test data, and pointing out deviations resulting from equipment malfunction or observational errors
  • Extracting engineering data from various prescribed but nonstandardized sources, processing the data following well-defined methods including elementary algebra and geometry, and presenting the data in prescribed form
  • Instrumentation applications, data collection and analysis, network maintenance, electrical assembly, soldering, crimping, fabricating various types of cables/connectors
  • Assisting with specialized handling, transportation, operation of one of a kind test articles and associated components
  • Conducts various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement, selecting, preparing, and operating standard test equipment and records test data
  • Interfacing directly with MSFC customers, technicians, and other test team members

Required Minimum Education/Experience/Certifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Practical knowledge of science or engineering
  • Practical knowledge of mathematics
  • Ability to work from written and verbal instructions

Preferred Experience/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/IT Skills/Certifications:

  • Associate degree or High School diploma and/or 3 years equivalent technical experience
  • Experience should include a working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Operating Systems for personal computers and MS Office products
  • Experience with forklifts, aerial lifts, and bridge cranes
  • Good communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Must be dependable and flexible
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and workmanship
  • Experience reading and understanding specifications and detailed work instructions
  • Hazardous research and test facilities, test stands, laboratories, chambers, high bay, and confined spaces

Physical Environment/Requirements (with or without reasonable accommodation):

  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs on occasion, sit or stand for long periods of time, ability to use and climb ladders and maneuver through tight spaces with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must adhere to MSFC and OSHA safety requirements, including use of appropriate PPE when necessary and follow written technical procedures.
  • Must be able to lift 40lbs with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to work at heights.
