Job summary

North Carolina Department of Transportation in Raleigh seeks an Engineering Technician III (S) for the Materials and Tests Unit. The role performs routine material tests in a laboratory to provide quality assurance for materials used on NC roadways and ensures procedures meet AASHTO/ASTM standards.

The position requires hands-on laboratory work, equipment handling, and ongoing qualification maintenance to support the lab’s accreditation.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related field, plus 3 years of related experience.
• Equivalent education/experience combinations may qualify.
• Experience using laboratory testing equipment and following SOPs per AASHTO/ASTM/department methods.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine material tests and evaluations in a laboratory to provide QA for materials used in North Carolina roadways.
• Maintain qualifications and conduct testing to sustain the laboratory’s accreditation.
• Handle laboratory equipment and materials tested (cement, fly ash, water, concrete, grout, etc.).
