City of Montgomery, AL is seeking an Engineering Technician II to support traffic engineers and technicians by reviewing plats and plans, developing plans, and addressing traffic-related service requests. The role includes field observations, site visits, and flight planning and scheduling for the department's Unmanned Aerial System (UAS).
Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED with 3 years of technical engineering experience, and a valid driver's license.
The fundamental reason this classification exists is to assist Traffic Engineers and Engineering Technicians in performing technical engineering work in the conduct and maintenance of traffic engineering surveys and projects. Work responsibilities include assisting Traffic Engineers and Engineering Technicians with reviewing plats and plans, developing plans, receiving and addressing traffic-related service requests, performing site visits and field observations, and flight planning and scheduling for the departmental Unmanned Aerial System (UAS). Distinguishing Characteristics: Positions in this classification typically advance from the entry-level Engineering Technician I. When filled from outside the organization, candidates must possess prior para-professional engineering experience and expertise. Incumbents in this classification perform more complex technical support duties. The Engineering Technician II is differentiated from the Engineering Technician I by the technical complexity of the work, including para-professional engineering, project management, and problem-solving. The Engineering Technician II may also provide indirect supervision to lower-level engineering technicians and report directly to an Engineering Technician III or a Traffic Engineer.
High school diploma or a GED and three (3) years of technical engineering experience in the area of traffic, public works, planning, and/or transportation.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record as needed to operate a city vehicle.
Work is performed indoors and outdoors and exposes the employee to hazards of traffic control construction sites, including dangers of fast-moving high-speed vehicles, and inclement weather conditions. Work requires regular physical activities such as walking, crawling, standing, stooping, bending, and operation of a motor vehicle. Work may require irregular schedules, including nights, holidays, or weekends, as needed during special events or emergencies.
