Job summary

Sigma Design in the Pacific Northwest seeks an Engineering Technician II - Failure Analysis to support assembly, testing, and validation of robotic and electromechanical systems. You will work with engineers to investigate hardware failures and prepare repaired assets for reliability evaluation.

Required high school diploma or GED (associate degree preferred), 2+ years of related experience, and ability to read schematics and use test instrumentation.

  • Experience with multimeters, oscilloscopes, soldering tools, and general laboratory equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Upgrade prototypes via mechanical assembly, wiring, and harness work.
  • Support pneumatics, sensors, motors in EM systems.
  • Disassemble, inspect, repair, and rebuild assemblies by procedures.
  • Perform component replacements and wiring/harness repairs.
  • Configure test setups and instrumentation for validation.
  • Conduct electromechanical, functional, and reliability testing.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, design, and test system issues.
  • Document repairs, test results, and observations.

  • Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm
  • The hiring range for this role is typically between $29.54 and $38.26 an hour, with the full range extending to $46.99 an hour based on experience, internal equity, and career progression
Primary Function

The Engineering Technician II - Failure Analysis is responsible for supporting engineering activities through assembly, troubleshooting, repair, rework, testing, and validation of robotic and electromechanical systems. This role partners with engineers to investigate hardware failures, restore failed hardware, execute reliability testing, document results, and prepare repaired assets for continued engineering evaluation.

Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities
  • Maintain and upgrade prototypes using mechanical assembly, point-to-point wiring, soldering, and harness assembly.
  • Support builds involving pneumatics, sensors, motors, and other electromechanical systems.
  • Disassemble, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild robotic and electromechanical assemblies using established procedures.
  • Perform component replacement, wiring repair, harness repair, mechanical adjustments, and subsystem rework as required.
  • Configure and maintain test setups, fixtures, and instrumentation to support engineering validation activities.
  • Perform electromechanical, functional, reliability, and validation testing using established procedures.
  • Troubleshoot design, build, integration, hardware, and test system issues using established procedures.
  • Support engineers during failure investigations, validation activities, and corrective action efforts.
  • Document repair activities, test results, failures, and observations.
  • Prepare repaired assemblies and subsystems for release into reliability validation testing.
  • Provide general technical support to the engineering team.
  • Maintain clean and organized lab spaces
  • Follow Business Technology policies to protect sensitive data and reduce information security occurrences.
Education and Experience: (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)
  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's degree preferred.
  • 2+ years relevant experience.
  • Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical prints.
  • Experience with multimeters, oscilloscopes, soldering tools, and general laboratory equipment.
Experience Assembling, Repairing, Or Troubleshooting Electromechanical Systems Preferred.
  • Familiarity with motors, sensors, actuators, harnessing, and mechanical assemblies preferred.
  • Familiarity with test instrumentation and validation or reliability testing preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong attention to quality, detail, safety, and documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal English language communication skills
  • Excellent teamwork/interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, both within and outside one's own work group
  • Demonstrate commitment and adherence to Sigma Design Core Values
  • Pass a post-offer background verification
Work Environment

Standard lab/production environment. Appropriate safety garments (PPE) must be worn. Occasionally may be required to work in environmental conditions that emulate typical user environments in order to facilitate design testing and validation. Occasionally may be required to travel as required to other facilities, clients, or suppliers. Must be able to stand and work as long as 12 hours in different positions. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
