Job summary

State of Utah is seeking an Engineering Technician II to support engineering projects, perform routine tasks under supervision, and assist engineers with data collection and documentation. The role involves applying basic engineering concepts and ensuring compliance with established guidelines in a field and office setting.

Engineering Technician II

FT / PT Status – Full-Time
Benefits Eligibility – This position is eligible for a full benefits package.
Salary – $22.4 - $37.59 Hourly Wage
Remote Work / In-Office – In-Office / On-Site

Key Responsibilities

This is a working level job. Incumbents typically demonstrate the type and level of knowledge and skills possessed by individuals who have had several years of successful related work experience. Working with close supervision, incumbents in this level directly and/or indirectly assist engineers by applying basic principles, techniques, and methods of science, engineering and mathematics acquired through formal training and/or on-the-job training to routine engineering related projects with regional or local impact. Actions and decisions are governed by well established guidlines. Assigned tasks may be perform in the field,and/or in an office.

Examples of Duties
  • Participates in a variety of activities assessments including feasibility, materials, research, design, concept
    and scoping, environmental, safety, specifications, schedules, revisions in the process of designing and
    developing engineering projects.
  • Interprets, clarifies, explains and applies agency policy and procedures, business practices, federal or state
    laws and regulations, etc.
  • Analyzes, summarizes and/or reviews data; reports findings, interprets results and/or makes
    recommendations.
  • Writes or drafts correspondence, reports, documents and/or other written materials.
  • Examine documents to verify applicability, legibility, completeness, accuracy, and/or consistency of
    information from one document to another, etc.
  • Prepares and/or processes documents; reviews documents for accuracy and completeness; reconciles
    discrepancies; makes needed adjustments; updates information and/or evaluates against policy; compares
    elements for consistency or logical relationships, etc.
  • Assists the public and others to complete forms, applications and other paperwork.
  • Receives, researches and responds to incoming questions or complaints; provides information, explains
    policy and procedures, and/or facilitates a resolution.
Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying
    principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and
    services.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry,and their applications.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses, buildings,
    or other structures such as highways and roads.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans,
    blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and
    sentences.
  • The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
  • The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • The ability to choose the right mathematical methods or formulas to solve a problem.
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or
    approaches to problems.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
    The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the
    problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
  • Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
  • Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made,
    asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files
    and records, stenography and transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand.
