Job summary

Oatey is seeking a design engineer to assist the design team with new product development, testing and validation in compliance with ISO and other standards. You will interface between R&D and production, create models and drawings, and support prototypes and design improvements.

The role requires 3–5 years in high-volume manufacturing, SolidWorks and MS Office proficiency, and a collaborative, detail-focused mindset. Associate degree in mechanical engineering preferred. On-site in Omaha.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with mechanical testing and design validation.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and MS Office.

Responsibilities

  • Understand product requirements and develop test methods for proving product designs.
  • Conduct tests to validate feasibility of concepts and production parts.
  • Collaborate with Compliance, R&D, Manufacturing, Quality and Sourcing to execute test validation in Stage Gate.
  • Assist engineering projects in feasibility and early development phases and propose design improvements.
  • Prepare technical drawing library and review current drawings.
  • Create and test prototypes with internal/external vendors and consultants.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for the assisting the design team with design and development of new products, making improvements to existing products for cost efficiency and reliability, and ensuring that testing and proof of concept activities are completed on time. Responsibilities are focused on testing and validation of new product concepts and designs, in compliance with ISO and other regulatory organizations (IAPMO, ASTM, ICC, NFPA, etc. and any others applicable to the product being developed), focusing on the testing aspects and the building of prototypes. The position will also Interface between the R&D team and the production floor for newly launched mechanical products. Creation of models and drawings for new designs and modifying existing designs is also a key function.


Position Responsibilities


  • Interact with Engineering Team to fully understand product requirements and develop test methods for proving product designs.

  • Conducts tests to ensure the feasibility of product concepts and production parts.

  • Work as needed with Compliance, R&D, Manufacturing, Quality and Sourcing to execute the design test validation plan in Stage Gate.

  • Participate with the Engineering Team on projects in the feasibility and early development phases to conduct testing and allow the engineers to provide recommendations for product or design improvements.

  • Prepares technical drawing library for engineering information and reviews current drawing.

  • Work with internal and external vendors and consultants to create and test functional prototypes of new devices, component changes, and design improvements.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Knowledge and Experience


  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a high volume manufacturing environment.

  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems and apparatus for testing and validating designs.

  • PC Computer Proficiency with Solidworks and Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to participate on multiple engineering projects focused on the mechanical range of the company’s technology and product areas.

  • Ability to complete tasks on-time with supervision.

  • Ability to apply critical thinking and problem solving to get past technical issues.

  • Ability to communicate technical and non-technical topics clearly and professionally.

  • Ability to learn and demonstrate understanding of complex technical topics.

  • Good interpersonal skills in order to work in cross-functional teams.

  • Knowledge and experience in industry code such as IAPMO, ASTM, ICC, NFPA, etc. preferred.

  • Practical knowledge of plumbing and water infrastructure installation and application techniques preferred.


Education and Certification


  • Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent is preferred.
