Job summary

The State of North Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking an Engineering Technician I (S) to support the Location & Surveys Unit in statewide surveying and plan sheet preparation. The role involves performing calculations, field and office tasks, and operating survey and CADD equipment under supervision.

This entry-level civil engineering position requires an Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology or related field, with potential trainee options.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related discipline.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may qualify you.
  • Trainee option available with salary adjustments as you gain qualifications.
  • Experience with highway route location surveying is preferred.
  • Ability to perform calculations and handle survey data under supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide range of standard and non-standard tasks in compiling, analyzing, and processing field data for an engineering survey crew.
  • Carry out basic field or office technical tasks related to highway route location surveys.
  • Operate survey instruments and CADD/computer systems for plan sheets and survey data, including hydraulic surveys and GPS work.
  • Operate Electronic Engineering Survey Equipment and CADD equipment.
  • Conduct courthouse research as part of the project workflow.
  • Maintain safety of self and worksite.
