Job description

NCDOT is looking for a highly motivated individual looking for a position with the potential for career advancement. This position will provide all state benefits including paid vacation and sick leave, health insurance, and retirement.

Positions 60020610 & 60020622 will be filled from this posting. You only have to apply once to be considered for both positions.

This is an Engineering Technician I position located in the Aberdeen Resident Engineers Office involving technical work supporting technicians and engineers in construction inspection, surveying, materials sampling, testing, erosion control, and construction traffic control. This position requires the performance of a wide variety of standardized and non-standardized tests and assignments in compiling, analyzing, computing, editing, and processing field data. This work involves limited decision making and the use of judgment. The successful applicant must perform a full range of calculations and computations and be proficient in record keeping. This position is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions.

You do not have to have a degree to qualify for this position. Applicants with at least two years of related experience are highly encouraged to apply.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:

Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:

  • Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments.
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of computer equipment, iPad, and software.
  • Experience in customer service and interacting with the general public.

Additional Expectations:

Management prefers applicants with the following:

  • Knowledge and understanding of general concepts, practices, and theories used in construction, construction inspection, and/or construction surveying.
  • Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
  • Experience in maintaining neat, legible, and accurate records and reports, including computer/iPad data entry.

Selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle. Safety toe shoes required.

Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

If there are no qualified candidates remaining in the applicant pool who meet the minimum Education and Experience or Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required for the position, the agency may consider for this position a trainee who does not meet the minimum requirements. Salary for a trainee may be set at a lower level than the classification salary range and recruitment range that is listed in the posting, with the salary being adjusted up accordingly when the trainee has obtained the necessary additional education and experience to fully meet the minimum qualifications as outlined in the classification specification.
