Job summary

ASM in Oregon is seeking an Equipment Engineering Technician I/II to support advanced semiconductor manufacturing and R&D operations. Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Automation, Chemical Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent military training.
  • Technician I: 1+ years of hands-on experience with complex equipment/automation systems.
  • Technician II: 3+ years of hands-on experience with complex equipment/automation systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, and repair activities on thermal and plasma ALD equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, vacuum, and automation-related issues on semiconductor equipment.
  • Monitor tool status, alarms, and performance and elevate issues as appropriate.
  • Support installation, modification, qualification, and commissioning of new equipment and facility upgrades.
  • Assist engineers in resolving hardware and process-related challenges.
  • Participate in root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions under guidance.
  • Interpret mechanical schematics, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and technical documentation to diagnose issues.
  • Maintain documentation of maintenance activities, equipment status, repairs, and findings.

Shift

8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Sunday through Thursday, with opportunities for overtime. Flexibility for occasional shift changes is required.

8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Tuesday through Saturday

3:00 PM - 12:00 AM, Monday through Friday

As an Equipment Engineering Technician, I / II at ASM, you will play a critical role in supporting advanced semiconductor manufacturing and R&D operations. In this hands-on, technology-rich role, you will work directly with ASM's thermal and plasma ALD systems, helping ensure the tools that enable next‑generation chip manufacturing perform at their highest levels. You will be part of an expert engineering environment, troubleshooting complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, vacuum, and automation systems while partnering closely with equipment, mechanical, electrical, and process engineers to solve challenging hardware and process issues. Whether you are investigating alarms, performing preventative maintenance, supporting equipment installations, or participating in root‑cause analysis efforts, your work directly contributes to ASM's reputation for world‑class reliability, innovation, and performance. What You Will Be Working On
  • Perform preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, and repair activities on thermal and plasma ALD equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, vacuum, and automation-related issues on semiconductor equipment.
  • Monitor tool status, alarms, and performance and elevate issues as appropriate.
  • Support installation, modification, qualification, and commissioning of new equipment and facility upgrades.
  • Assist equipment, mechanical, electrical, and process engineers in resolving hardware and process-related challenges.
  • Participate in root‑cause analysis activities and implement corrective actions under engineering guidance.
  • Interpret mechanical schematics, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and technical documentation to diagnose equipment issues.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities, equipment status, repairs, and technical findings.
  • Support spare parts, consumables, and chemical inventory management.
  • Follow all cleanroom, safety, environmental, and chemical handling procedures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve equipment reliability, uptime, and performance.
  • Provide timely technical support while maintaining a strong customer and service-oriented mindset.
What We Are Looking For
  • Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Automation, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent military technical training.
  • Technician I: 1+ years of hands‑on experience working with complex equipment, automation systems, manufacturing equipment, or high‑precision tools.
  • Technician II: 3+ years of hands‑on experience working with complex equipment, automation systems, manufacturing equipment, or high‑precision tools.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills involving electro‑mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical schematics, wiring diagrams, electrical drawings, and P&IDs.
  • Basic understanding of vacuum systems, pumps, gas delivery systems, heaters, valves, and related mechanical assemblies.
  • Experience performing preventative maintenance, repairs, installations, and system diagnostics.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and thrive in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
What Sets You Apart
  • Experience working in semiconductor manufacturing or semiconductor equipment environments.
  • Experience working in a cleanroom environment.
  • Familiarity with thin‑film deposition technologies such as ALD or PECVD.
  • Knowledge of vacuum systems, RF plasma technologies, gas delivery systems, and electro‑pneumatic controls.
  • Experience supporting advanced manufacturing, automation, or capital equipment.
  • Understanding of root‑cause analysis methodologies and structured problem‑solving techniques.
  • Experience handling or working around chemicals in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships and effectively collaborate with engineering teams.
  • Passion for working with advanced technology and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
