Job summary

L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Composite Manufacturing Technician for our AMF North facility in Huntsville, AL. The role focuses on fabrication and assembly of large case composite rocket motor hardware, using advanced instrumentation and testing equipment in a specialized environment.

Essential duties include building layups, installing sensors, and assisting engineers with SOPs while working a 10-hour shift, 4 days a week. Security clearance may be required for access to certain programs.

Qualifications

• Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience.
• Experience with complex instrumentation and equipment.
• Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance and work at AMF North in Huntsville.

Responsibilities

• Perform tests utilizing complex instrumentation and equipment including load cells, pressure transducers, strain gauges, thermocouples, accelerometers and video cameras.
• Install sensors and connect to test equipment; build complex layups individually or in small groups.
• Produce development hardware to support R&D programs and perform data analysis and reporting.

Job Description:

L3Harris is seeking a Composite Manufacturing Technician to work at our state-of-the-art Advanced Manufacturing Facility (AMF) North in Huntsville, AL, which is our inert manufacturing facility for fabrication and assembly of large case composite rocket motor hardware.

Essential Functions:

• Perform tests utilizing complex instrumentation and equipment including, but not limited to, Load cells, Pressure transducers, strain gages, thermocouples, accelerometers & video cameras
• Installation of thermocouples, strain gauges, pressure transducers, sensors and connection to test equipment
• Build complex layups individually and in small groups.
• Build, clean, and properly store large tooling.
• Insulation of mandrels and composite cases.
• Cast, cure and machining of sand mandrels.
• Review designs and specifications with Engineers and other advanced technicians.
• Assist in developing standard operating procedures and special instructions necessary to support processing of rocket motors.
• Troubleshoot and check out instrumentation problems such as shorted or open circuits due to instrument cable problems. Review Test Plans for possible instrumentation conflicts or inaccessible areas.
• Troubleshoot and be able to set the Conditioning box controls. Handle the set up and activation of test equipment such as Hydrologger, Vishay Amplifier, Micro-welder, or Multimeter (VOM).
• Support Process Engineers by setting up, operating experimental or prototype equipment to meet processing requirements
• Produce development hardware to support research and development programs.
• Troubleshoot processes and identify, modify and/or eliminate out of control processes and production escapes.
• Perform analysis, calculations, statistics, and prepare reports on above activities.
• Coordinate with maintenance, supervision and/or engineers in the set-up and calibration of equipment.
• Participate in preventative maintenance activities.
• Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance.

Qualifications:

• Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience.

Preferred Additional Skills:

• Computer software background.
• Experience with varying data acquisition.
• Experience with micro-welding instrumentation or soldering instrumentation.
• Experience or courses completed on Blueprint reading or Geometric Tolerancing.
• Ability to perform engineering mathematical calculations.
• Ability to create simple drawings and sketches for communication purposes.
• Experience with the set up and activation of test equipment such as, Hydrologger, Vishay Amplifier, Micro-welder or Multimeter (VOM).
• Experience working with complex instrumentation and equipment
• Experience with strain gauges, thermal couples, hydraulics, pneumatics.
• Experience with component level troubleshooting.
