The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Engineering Technicians perform a broad range of duties involving technical engineering work in support of professional engineers including drafting, engineering calculations, surveying, materials and soils testing, construction inspection, roadway design, right-of-way engineering, planning, permitting and inspection, water rights appropriation and land acquisition in support of civil or related professional engineering work. Work requires the application of technical engineering skills, methods and practices in compiling technical data, drafting, computer aided software, operating specialized equipment and preparing engineering related documents.
Under close supervision of a higher-level technician or engineer, incumbents learn to perform technical engineering tasks at the entry level.
This position is in the Pavement Analysis section of the Materials Division. Technicians in this position will be responsible for performing field testing operations utilizing the specialized pavement testing equipment of the section and will include, but not be limited to, statewide testing, equipment calibration, mechanical inventory, data collection and record management. Technicians will also be required to assist in other tasks such as the research of construction plans, change orders, and special provisions for historical database entry. Knowledge and experience with computer software programs including, but not limited to Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and database software are preferred. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of experience involving public contact; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
This position requires a valid driver's license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
This position requires applicants be at least 18 years of age upon hire. If selected, proof of being at least 18 years of age will be required.
