We are an in-office company, and our expectation is that full-time employees primarily work from their Applied Intuition office 5 days a week. However, we also recognize the importance of flexibility and trust our employees to manage their schedules responsibly. This may include occasional remote work, starting the day with morning meetings from home before heading to the office, or leaving earlier when needed to accommodate family commitments. This in-office expectation does not apply to contractor positions.

About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Engineering Technician to join our team. This hands-on role will play a crucial part in supporting the design, buildout, integration, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of our autonomous vehicle platforms and supporting systems. The role will include field based work in operational environments such as mine sites and quarries, including travel and periods working away from home. At Applied Intuition, we encourage engineers and technicians to take ownership over technical and product decisions, and contribute to a thoughtful, dynamic team culture.

At Applied Intuition, you will:
  • Support the build, installation, integration, commissioning, and maintenance of autonomous vehicle hardware and supporting systems.
  • Troubleshoot vehicle systems, electrical and computer components, communications systems, sensors, and localisation systems including GNSS, performing root cause analysis and calibration.
  • Manage an inventory system for components, tools, and field supplies, maintaining organization and efficiency.
  • Work collaboratively to minimize vehicle downtime while prioritizing safety, reliability, and performance.
  • Support field testing and operational activities.
We're looking for someone who has:
  • 2+ years of technical experience in mechanical, electrical, telecommunications, computer, automotive, robotics, or similar industries.
  • Proven ability to assemble prototypes, electrical wiring, and cable assemblies according to engineering instructions.
  • Strong understanding of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and data sheets, ensuring accurate interpretation and implementation.
  • Strong practical understanding of physical communications infrastructure, cabling, connectors, and interfaces, with the ability to troubleshoot basic Layer 2-4 network and communications issues.

  • Practical experience working in a workshop, field, lab, or assembly environment and a commitment to high-quality workmanship.
  • Familiarity with shop equipment and automotive or industrial diagnostic tools.
  • Enthusiasm for learning new technologies and thriving in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organization and communication skills, effectively collaborating with team members and maintaining an accurate inventory system.
  • Ability and willingness to work in rugged operational environments, travel to customer sites, work away from home, and occasionally work unconventional hours as operational requirements demand.
Nice to have:
  • Experience working in mining, heavy industry, defence, field service, construction, or other demanding operational environments.
  • Familiarity with programming and configuration management, enhancing troubleshooting and automation capabilities.
  • Understanding of ROS and Linux operating systems, contributing to software integration and testing activities.
  • CNC, machining, metalworking, and welding skills, allowing for advanced fabrication and repair tasks.
  • Knowledge of automotive or heavy vehicle repair and maintenance, providing additional problem-solving expertise.
