Job summary

EnerSys is seeking a design engineering professional to support Sumter Metal Products. You will read blueprints, draft layouts, and manage materials and routings in SAP while collaborating with engineers and technicians to drive production improvements.

The role requires CAD proficiency (AutoCAD/SolidWorks), Windchill experience, and strong communication skills in a plant environment. Training on CAM software may be provided.

Qualifications

• Two year degree or equivalent certification or 4+ years in design engineering.
• Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks and Windchill.
• Strong written and verbal communication; proficient with MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and assembly details for fabrication.
• Draft and CAM support using AutoCAD, SolidWorks and Windchill; training possible.
• Create materials, BOMs and routings in SAP; manage engineering data in ERP.
• Collaborate with designers, engineers, and technicians on projects.
• Support engineering workflow and DFx documentation for production.
• Provide data analysis for prototype builds and new processes.

Job Purpose

This position will primarily support the Engineering & Production departments of Sumter Metal Products. Our goal is to produce high-quality metal fabricated assemblies in an efficient and cost-effective manner, while ensuring on-time delivery to our customers

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Must be capable of reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and assembly details for fabrication.
• Manage or assist in engineering and fabrication Motive Power trays, layouts, components, and accessories.
• Sheet Metal, Metal working or Fabrication Experience needed.
• Drafting and CAM support using AutoCad, SolidWorks and Windchill. Willing to Training in with CAM Software.
• Manage and create new/revised materials for entry into SAP / SAP Experience, Creating materials, BOM's and routings.
• Manage all aspects of EOS L4 and any 5Why tags generated within the Engineering area of expertise. Ensuring HeyDo is current and relevant.
• Collaborating with designers, engineers, and technicians
• Assist in managing projects for production development, design criteria, product and process improvement.
• Assist in gathering, organizing, and analyzing data relating to Engineering-sponsored projects...including prototype builds, new products, and new process introduction.
• Provide technical assistance, as needed, to Management, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality, and other members of the Sumter Metals Team.
• Provide Support Functions for local Engineer, Corporate and Materials.
• Work with coordinators in Focus Area Meetings and Cock Walks to identify DFx opportunities.
• Must Manage Engineering Workflow, responsible for managing Engineering Custom order report and Material Creation for each engineering request.
• Must be in controls for DFm/DFx and E-100 inputs with all documentation.
• Creating standards and updates to the Manufacturing instructions.

• EDUCATION and/ or EXPERIENCE: Two year degree or equivalent certification or 4-years experience in design engineering or design-related engineering, proven work history of AutoCad/ Drafting / Solid Works knowledge and exposure, and above average computer skills in Microsoft Office Software.
• LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals. The candidate will be required to write routine reports and correspondence and must have effective oral and written communication skills.
• MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, check drawing accuracy, use formulas involving area, circumference, and volume. The candidate must have the ability to understand and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
• REASONING ABLITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. The candidate should be able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
