Job description

Job Title: Engineering Technician

Department: Engineering
Reports To: Engineering Manager

Job Summary:
We’re looking for a hands-on, mechanically inclined individual to join our team as an Engineering Technician – Implementation. This role serves as the critical link between the Engineering team and the shop floor, helping bring new designs and continuous improvement projects to life. From assembling custom fixtures to installing them in production, you’ll play a key role in turning ideas into real-world solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assemble new fixtures, jigs, and tooling based on engineering designs

  • Work from 2D prints and 3D CAD models to understand and execute builds

  • Perform MIG welding on steel components as required

  • Use hand tools, drills, presses, grinders, taps, and other equipment to fabricate and assemble parts

  • Operate or learn to operate forklifts and overhead cranes to move materials and equipment

  • Run test pieces on new fixtures to verify proper function before full implementation

  • Work independently in the Fab Lab to support new projects and CI (continuous improvement) initiatives

  • Collaborate closely with engineers to ensure projects meet safety, quality, and efficiency goals

  • Support the implementation of new tools and fixtures on the production floor

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • MIG welding ability

  • Ability to read 2D engineering drawings and visualize 3D designs

  • Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude

  • Ability to use common hand tools and basic shop equipment

  • Interest in learning to drive a forklift and operate an overhead crane

  • Comfortable working on custom, one-off projects (not repetitive production work)

  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage time and tasks with minimal supervision

Why This Role Exists:
This position was created to fill a growing gap between Engineering and Maintenance. With an increasing number of new fixtures, jigs, and CI projects, our current maintenance team is stretched too thin to keep up. This role ensures critical projects don’t get delayed due to other shop priorities. You’ll take ownership of building and implementing new equipment—ensuring it’s done right, on time, and ready for production.
