Engineering Technician – Temporary to Hire
Schedule:
Monday - Friday 8:00am-5:00pm
Compensation:
$25-$30/hr
Primary Function
The Engineering Technician I assists in the build, maintenance, and modification of prototypes, products, and assemblies in support of engineering teams. Depending on project assignment, technicians will focus on mechanical assembly, industrial electrical panel and control cabinet assembly, or electrical wiring and harness assembly. This role performs routine tasks under supervision while developing foundational technical skills.
Essential Job Functions / Responsibilities
- Assemble mechanical and electromechanical components using engineering drawings and work instructions.
- Build and wire industrial electrical panels and control cabinets (select positions).
- Assemble wire harnesses, perform wire crimping, cable routing, and soldering (select positions).
- Perform mechanical assembly of products and subassemblies on a production or assembly line.
- Inspect completed work to ensure quality and compliance with specifications.
- Support testing, documentation, and basic troubleshooting activities.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Follow detailed work instructions, standard operating procedures, and company safety policies.
- Participate in training to expand technical knowledge and manufacturing skills.
Education and Experience (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Mechanical Assembly Positions (High Tech I)
- 1+ years of mechanical or production assembly experience.
- Comfortable using hand and power tools in a manufacturing environment.
- Electrical Assembly Positions (High Tech II Preferred)
- Experience assembling industrial electrical panels or control cabinets OR
- Experience with wire harness assembly, wire crimping, cable routing, and soldering.
- Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics, or assembly drawings preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Basic computer and math skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Standard manufacturing, laboratory, and light production environment.
- Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) required.
- Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 12 hours).
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
- May occasionally travel to other facilities, clients, or suppliers.
