Job description

The Engineering Technician position with the Department of Transportation is a great opportunity to begin a career that supports roads and bridges used by millions. This role supports the drafting and design work needed to create detailed highway and bridge plans. It is part of a training program that leads to placement in the Design Unit. As an Engineering Technician, you will perform the following duties:

  • Drafting Support: Create highway and bridge plans using CADD tools and conventional drafting methods
  • Survey Interpretation: Translate survey data into clear plan sheets that show existing roadway features
  • Plan Preparation: Develop drawings and layouts from preliminary engineering sketches and notes
  • Design Assistance: Work with designers to assemble complete sets of project plans
  • Field Participation: Join field views and inspections to help verify project details
  • Data Tools: Use RMS and Auto Tab systems to collect information and generate summaries

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, upon successful completion of probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Montoursville. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $41,506 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • An associate degree in surveying, drafting, designing, civil, or any other appropriate field of engineering technology.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
