VAST Data is looking for an Engineering Technician to lead and manage day-to-day RMA lab operations, including debugging, testing, and repairing defective customer returns at our test lab in Mountain View, CA. Your expertise in testing and diagnosing issues will ensure the quality and reliability of our products.

Responsibilities

1. Manage customer returns through the end-to-end RMA process, including material movement, Jira ticket updates, hardware testing, and repairs, ensuring high quality and process adherence.
2. Perform failure replication and debugging on x86-based servers.
3. Document test results, issues encountered, and actions taken.
4. Repair and replace faulty components to ensure system functionality and reliability.
5. Write and update work instructions and related documentation.
6. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers and suppliers, to drive root cause analysis reports.
7. Summarize and communicate field quality issues to leadership.
8. Present monthly and quarterly RMA lab metrics to leadership concisely and clearly.

Basic Qualifications/Required Experience

1. 5+ years of hands-on experience in testing and troubleshooting x86 servers.
2. Knowledge of OEM server and compute products (Supermicro, Dell, HPE) and debugging skills.
3. Understanding of manufacturing test processes and work instruction creation.
4. Familiarity with manufacturing and testing equipment, concepts, and techniques.
5. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
6. Detail-oriented, reliable, self-motivated, and able to work under pressure with clear communication.
7. Flexible to work in a startup environment.
8. Proven ability to work across time zones and prioritize tasks, escalating as needed.
9. Strong problem-solving, data analysis, and attention to detail skills.
10. Familiarity with JIRA, Confluence, Google Docs, Slack.
