Job summary

Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Maine is seeking an Engineering Technician in the Combat Systems Division (Code 290) of the Engineering and Planning Department to support test readiness and shipboard testing.

The role requires coordinating with Ship’s force, reviewing test data for conformance to specifications, and preparing test procedures derived from NAVSEA specifications, while maintaining Test Program Reports and ensuring safety compliance.

Qualifications

  • At least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to GS-11.
  • Experience in general engineering tech involving mechanical, electrical, and electronic weapons systems.
  • Experience supporting Combat Systems test programs on submarines (new construction, overhaul or conversion).
  • Experience helping ensure CS test programs meet technical safety requirements on ships.
  • Experience maintaining Test Program Reports (TPRs) and related change proposals.

Job description

Summary

You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the Combat Systems Division (Code 290), Combat Systems Test Branch (Code 295) of the Engineering and Planning Department ofPORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties
  • You will coordinate closely with Ship’s force with respect to test readiness and support of shipboard testing.
  • You will report conditions and status of testing to the senior Shipyard managers.
  • You will ensure that test data is reviewed for conformance to specifications
  • You will review and process all work permits that may affect combat systems testing.
  • You will prepare detailed test procedures, through the System Leader, based on NAVSEA derived specification.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators, and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Experience performing duties as a general engineering technician involving mechanical, electrical, and electronic weapons systems and equipment.
  • Experience accomplishing Combat Systems (CS) test programs on one or more new construction, overhaul, and conversion submarines.
  • Experience assisting with overall test programs/schedules for the ship’s Combat Systems (CS) consistent with the key event schedule, system status, and ship’s conditions.
  • Experience ensuring that the Combat Systems (CS) test programs meet all the technical safety requirements on the ships.
  • Experience maintaining the Test Program Reports (TPR’s) and change proposal are properly made out, forwarded and included in the test program.
