Job summary

Thea Energy in New Jersey is seeking skilled personnel to build, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical systems within a high‑tech manufacturing environment. You will assist in developing new equipment, tools, and inspection techniques to improve production efficiency and quality.

Responsibilities include organizing tools/workspace, assembling test articles, and supporting process development and tooling. A strong work ethic and deadline discipline are essential.

Qualifications

  • High-school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience in shop fabrication, manufacturing, research, or high-tech industry.
  • 5+ years of technical experience with mechanical or electrical systems, high pressure or high vacuum systems, cryogenic systems, plumbing, soldering, system testing, power or controls systems.
  • Comfortable working to aggressive deadlines and exceptional work ethic.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite tools or similar software.

About Thea Energy:

Thea Energy is leveraging recent breakthroughs in stellarator physics and engineering to create a faster and simpler approach to commercializing fusion energy. The company is reinventing the stellarator using computer-controlled arrays of planar coils thereby replacing the intricate, complex modular magnets required in all other stellarator architectures. Thea Energy is on a mission to create a limitless source of zero emission energy for a sustainable future.

Key Responsibility Areas:
  • Build, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical systems
  • Assist in developing new equipment, tools, procedures, and inspection techniques to reduce production time while maintaining high quality
  • Responsible for tool and workspace organization and maintenance
  • Assemble and troubleshoot test articles and supporting test equipment
  • Collaborate to support development of manufacturing processes and tooling
Required Experience & Skillsets:
  • High-school diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in shop fabrication, manufacturing, research, or high-tech industry
  • 5+ years of technical experience with any of the following: mechanical or electrical systems, high pressure or high vacuum systems, cryogenic systems, plumbing, soldering, system testing, power or controls systems
  • Comfortable working to aggressive deadlines and exceptional work ethic
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite tools or similar software
Ideal Experience:
  • Knowledge of quality control and inspection procedures
  • Experience operating, maintaining, or troubleshooting or programming automation equipment, e.g. PLC, HMI, or process controllers
  • Experience with reflow solder processes, including PCBA manufacturing
  • Crane or lifting experience
  • Forklift experience
  • Experience with electrical schematic and wiring
  • Experience using various types of hand tools and precision measuring tools
  • Experience in documenting, improving, and implementing process instructions
  • Experience with reading and reviewing mechanical drawings
  • Experience with machining, operating manual milling, saws, and other tools

Requirements:
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to perform activities such as typing, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time
  • Willingness to occasionally travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call
  • Ability to work in a facility that contains industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics
