Engineering Technician I / Associate Engineer
Dilon Technologies| Engineering |Full-time | On-site
About the Role
Dilon Technologies is looking for an Engineering Technician I / Associate Engineer to build our highly technical, electrically sensitive medical devices on the manufacturing line. This role is hands‑on bench work: following work instructions written by our manufacturing and systems engineers, performing precision soldering and electro‑mechanical assembly, and documenting steps on the build traveler.
Because our products are medical devices built in a highly regulated environment, the quality of your workmanship and your documentation matter equally. This role is ideal for someone with excellent soldering skills who takes pride in doing precise work exactly as specified, every time, and who wants to grow their engineering skills by supporting the engineers who design and improve our products and processes.
What You’ll Do: Production Builds ([~75%])
- Build to work instructions: Assemble highly technical electro‑mechanical medical devices on the manufacturing line, following work instructions, assembly procedures, and engineering drawings exactly as written.
- Precision soldering: Perform high‑reliability soldering of electronic assemblies, including surface mount and through‑hole components, to IPC workmanship standards.
- Sensitive electronics: Handle electrically sensitive components and assemblies using proper ESD controls, cleanliness practices, and careful handling throughout the build.
- Cables and subassemblies: Fabricate and assemble cables, wiring harnesses, and subassemblies.
- In-process inspection and test: Perform in-process inspections and functional tests using microscopes, measurement equipment, and test fixtures, and verify each step meets requirements before moving on.
- Rework and repair: Troubleshoot, repair, and rework assemblies per approved procedures, and document all rework.
- Tools and equipment: Use and care for hand tools, power tools, soldering stations, microscopes, measurement equipment, and test fixtures.
What You’ll Do: Build Documentation and Quality
- Travelers: Complete build travelers accurately, completely, and in real time, recording serial numbers, lot numbers, test results, and sign‑offs as each step is performed.
- Good documentation practices: Follow good documentation practices (GDP) so every record is legible, traceable, and audit‑ready as part of the Device History Record (DHR).
- Nonconformances: Identify and report nonconforming material, deviations, and build issues promptly, and support NCMR and corrective action activities.
- Quality system: Follow quality system procedures and regulatory requirements under FDA 21 CFR Part 820 and ISO 13485.
- Feedback on instructions: Flag unclear or incorrect work instructions to engineering and help improve them through the engineering change process.
What You’ll Do: Engineering and Manufacturing Support ([~26%])
- Pilot builds and design transfer: Build prototype and pilot units and help engineers prove out new products and processes before they move to production.
- Work instructions: Assist manufacturing and systems engineers in developing and validating assembly procedures, work instructions, and travelers.
- Fixtures and tooling: Help build and qualify tooling, fixtures, and assembly aids.
- Testing and validation: Execute test plans, record results, and support process validation (IQ, OQ, PQ) and verification and validation testing.
- Root cause and improvement: Participate in root cause investigations and help identify opportunities for yield, quality, and productivity improvements.
- Cross-functional support: Assist Operations, Service, Quality, and Regulatory teams as needed.
What We’re Looking For
- Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Electronics Technology, Mechanical Technology, Biomedical Technology, or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent, demonstrated precision soldering skills, including surface mount and through‑hole work under magnification.
- Strong hands‑on bench skills in electronic and electro‑mechanical assembly.
- Experience working with electrically sensitive (ESD‑sensitive) components and assemblies.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and assembly documentation, and to follow detailed work instructions precisely.
- Experience completing build travelers or production records in a documented, controlled environment.
- Experience using measurement equipment, test fixtures, and laboratory tools.
- Exceptional attention to detail and consistency. You do the job right, the same way, every time.
- Effective troubleshooting skills and the ability to quickly learn new products and processes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
- Clear communication skills. You work well independently and with engineers, technicians, and manufacturing and quality staff, and you speak up when something isn’t right.
Nice to Have
- IPC J-STD-001 and/or IPC‑A‑610 certification.
- Production experience in a regulated industry such as medical devices, aerospace, defense, or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
- Familiarity with FDA 21 CFR Part 820, ISO 13485, and good documentation practices.
- Experience with DHR documentation and NCMR processes.
- Experience with Arena PLM or a similar documentation management system.
- Experience with SolidWorks or other CAD software.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Biomedical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
Why Join Us
- Build products that matter. The devices you assemble go directly into patient care.
- Work closely with the engineers who design our products and processes, and help make them better.
- A path to growth. This role can lead toward Manufacturing, Test, Product Development, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit or stand at a workbench for extended periods.
- Ability to perform detailed assembly and soldering work under magnification for extended periods.
- Ability to distinguish wire colors and component markings.
- Ability to follow ESD and cleanliness requirements, including wearing required protective equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
- Ability to work safely with laboratory and manufacturing equipment.
