Job summary

Sonoco, a global packaging leader based in Hartsville, SC, seeks an Engineering Team Leader – Key Projects. You will lead a high-impact technology team, drive product development and process optimization, and collaborate with cross-functional partners to deliver innovative, cost-effective solutions.

You will manage project timelines from inception to commercialization, mentor engineers, and own the engineering budget while using tools like Python, Minitab, and Planner to inform decisions.

Qualifications

• BS, MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering (or related technical field).
• Around 10 years of professional experience, including people management.
• Project management experience; PMP, PMI, or PPM certifications are a plus.
• Technical savvy with a passion for innovation.
• Knowledge of the paper industry is a bonus.

Responsibilities

• Drive Innovation & Product Development with cross-functional teams.
• Collaborate with engineers, scientists, and project managers to design and test products.
• Lead and mentor a team of engineers, managing an engineering budget.
• Oversee data analytics and project execution using tools like Python, Minitab, and Planner.
• Provide clear, data-driven updates to leadership on milestones and status.
• Bridge gaps across Operations, Sales, Quality, and Marketing.
