Job description

Position Overview

The unit is looking to fill the position of an Engineering Support Specialist. This position provides engineering level support and will oversee that all bus testing procedures comply with the testing requirements stated in the U.S. DOT, Federal Transit Administration regulations. The position is responsible for performing vehicle emissions and dynamometer testing with faculty and staff and will perform automotive research and testing activities in support of the Bus Testing Center.

This position specifies and purchases equipment required to perform research and testing and ensures that test equipment is operating and calibrated in accordance with ISO-17025 accreditation standards.

Responsibilities
  • Basic mechanical, electronic and electrical design, and fabrication.
  • Conduct ISO-17025 compliance audits.
  • Train staff and technical service employees in the performance of test procedures and operation of test equipment to ensure proper and safe operation.
  • Review, perform, and revise automotive testing procedures, collect and process data, and prepare reports.
  • Provide all safety training, perform safety inspections, and ensure compliance with all University safety policies.
Minimum Education and Experience
  • Associate Degree + 6+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • No required certifications.
Background Checks / Clearances

Employment with the University will require successful completion of background checks in accordance with University policies. The position requires operation of a motor vehicle; a valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check are required. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.; Penn State does not sponsor employment visas.

Salary & Benefits

Salary range: $61,800.00 – $89,600.00. Penn State provides a competitive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision coverage, robust retirement plans, paid time off (holidays, vacation, sick time), and a generous 75% tuition discount for employees, spouses, and children.
