Job summary

The City of San Antonio is seeking a licensed Professional Engineer to supervise the Engineering division, overseeing the design, construction, and maintenance of principal public works programs. This unclassified, at-will role requires strong leadership of staff in an office setting.

Responsibilities include reviewing plans and cost estimates, approving contracts, advising departments, and evaluating consultant proposals, with budget support as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required.
• Four (4) years of engineering experience.
• PE license in Texas or eligibility within 6 months.
• Valid Class C Texas driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Supervises professional, technical, and other staff in design, construction, and maintenance of principal public works projects.
• Reviews design plans, project specs, and estimates; attends review meetings; identifies and solves design problems.
• Approves plans and specifications for construction contracts.
• Advises City departments on engineering matters.
• Requests and evaluates consultant fee proposals; monitors compensation for services.
• Reviews bids and attends pre-bid conferences; makes bid recommendations.
• Assists with budget preparation.
