Job summary

Pike Engineering is seeking an experienced engineering leader to provide technical support to the group and leadership. The role includes billable project work, leadership of engineers and designers, project management, and involvement in staff development and recruiting.

You will coach, review subordinates, oversee QA/QC, and contribute to business development. A BS in Engineering (ABET-accredited) and 4–7 years in electric utility design are required; PE license is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from ABET-accredited college (Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil preferred).
• 4–7 years of experience in electric utility infrastructure design and engineering.
• Professional Engineer license desired.

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor other engineering professionals on complex, multi-disciplined projects.
• Review work of subordinate engineers and designers.
• Develop and oversee QA/QC and technical training processes for offices and projects.
• Perform Project Management activities on client projects and related duties.

Job description

SUMMARY:

Provide engineering/technical support to the group and administrative leadership. Incumbents will have direct reports that include engineers and designers. Role will include both billable client work (project work) and leadership responsibilities. The incumbent is expected to lead projects, perform responsive charge engineering duties, manage project schedules as well as participate in employee development, recruiting and business development activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Coach and mentor other engineering professionals on complex, multi-disciplined projects
• Maintain advanced knowledge of industry engineering and technical codes, standards, and best practices
• Review work of subordinates engineering professionals
• Develop and oversee QA/QC and technical training processes and procedures for assigned offices, work teams, projects, and/or clients
• Engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems
• Approve timecards and expense reports for direct reports and assist in annual reviews
• Assist in recruiting efforts, when requested
• Assist in business development and strategic planning for the group, when requested
• Perform Project Management activities on assigned Client Projects along with responsible charge
• Engineering duties
• Perform other duties as assigned

COMPLEXITY OF WORK:

Moderately routine: general policies applied. Some decision making.

RELATIONSHIP SHIP OUTSIDE WORK GROUP:

Influences decisions of moderate nature requiring high degree of tact.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Approve timecards and expense reports, assist in annual reviews, assist in interview process and recruiting effort.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Regular attendance is required. Education and/or Experience:

Required: A Bachelor’s of Science degree from an ABET accredited four-year college or University in Engineering, preferably in one of the core engineering disciplines (i.e., Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil).

Experience: 4-7 Year(s) Experience in electric utility infrastructure design and engineering.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: State registration is preferred. Professional Engineering license desired.

Language Skills:
• A. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
• B. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• C. Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills:
• A. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry and trigonometry.

Reading, Writing, and Speaking Ability:
• A. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• B. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to communicate clearly. Ability to engage with internal and external clients and employees.
