Job summary

AFL is seeking a seasoned Engineering leader to manage and develop an internal/external engineering team, driving technical support and innovation across wire drawing and cladding projects.

You will collaborate with management, production, and scheduling to define specifications, analyze feasibility, ensure quality, and lead ISO-aligned process improvements. Strong hands-on experience and travel flexibility are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering is required.
  • Professional Engineering Certification is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of applicable product knowledge including uses, applications and industry trends.
  • 5+ years in an Engineering role in power utility transmission distribution with motion control, compression accessories or substation design is desired.
  • Hands-on shop floor experience engaging with engineers, technicians, operators, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop the skill set of the engineering team to provide technical support to internal and external customers.
  • Coordinate, direct, and engage in wire drawing and cladding process projects with detailed plans and integration of technical activities.
  • Collaborate with management, production, and scheduling staff to define project specifications and procedures.
  • Analyze technology, resource needs, and market demand to plan and assess project feasibility.
  • Control product quality by defining projects to reduce processing defects.
  • Execute and improve tools, systems, and metrics for success.
  • Direct, review, and approve product designs and changes.
  • Engage in personnel recruiting, directing, and development.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO registration.
  • Lead efforts to resolve manufacturing upsets as needed.
  • Conduct product failure analysis with professional documentation that earns customer recognition.
  • Ensure alignment with AFL, EHS, and HR systems, values, and goals.

Responsibilities

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering is required
  • Professional Engineering Certification is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of applicable product knowledge to include uses, applications and industry trends.
  • 5 or more years’ experience in an Engineering role (Applications, Product Development or Process) within the power utility transmission distribution market involving motion control, compression accessories or substation design is desired.
  • Must have "hands‑on" shop floor experience engaging with engineers, technicians, operators, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience with wire drawing and cladding processes.
  • Ability needed to take commercial input and determine if a new product is needed; if so, assess feasibility, and then execute from Concept through Design, Testing, and Industrialization.
  • Flexibility to travel in support of commercial advancement of engineered product solutions or field support.
  • Advanced Computer Skills – Word processing, spreadsheets, database software, SolidWorks.
  • Project management experience with certification is preferred.
  • Experience with data analysis is preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Highly developed analytical, teambuilding, and planning skills.
