Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering required.
  • 7+ years of engineering experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Experience in design engineering for actuators, valves, pumps, or switches.
  • Prior work in aerospace/defense or other highly regulated industries.
  • Familiarity with AS9100, ISO-9001, APQP is preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership in engineering teams and strong product roadmap skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a team of design engineers, providing direction, coaching, and mentorship.
  • Guide design activities for actuator, valve, pump, and switch product lines and contribute to roadmaps.
  • Ensure designs meet performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost targets; provide technical oversight.
  • Enforce engineering processes, standards, and documentation practices; drive improvements.
  • Support business development with technical input and collaborate with manufacturing, project, and quality teams.
  • Ensure timely, within-scope design deliverables and manage technical risks from development to production.

Position Summary

The Design Engineering Supervisor – Fluid Motion Control Products is responsible for leading and supervising the design engineering functions for actuators, valves, pumps, and switch technologies at ITT Aerospace Control’s Valencia site. This role provides both technical leadership and people management, ensuring alignment with business objectives, product strategy, and engineering excellence.

The position plays a critical role in developing engineering talent, driving product innovation through technical roadmap execution, and ensuring adherence to established engineering processes and standards.

Essential Responsibilities

Leadership & People Management

  • Supervise and lead a team of design engineers, providing direction, coaching, and mentorship
  • Drive talent development through training, career planning, and succession planning initiatives
  • Conduct performance management, including goal setting, feedback, and performance evaluations
  • Foster a high-performance, collaborative, and accountable team environment

Technical Leadership & Product Development

  • Guide design engineering activities for actuator, valve, pump, and switch product lines
  • Contribute to the development and execution of product technology roadmaps
  • Ensure designs meet performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost objectives
  • Provide technical oversight and decision-making support across development programs

Engineering Process & Compliance

  • Enforce adherence to engineering processes, standards, and procedures
  • Ensure accountability for design quality, documentation, and validation practices
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering workflows, tools, and best practice

Business Support & Strategy

  • Support business development efforts including proposal development and technical input
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, project, and quality teams
  • Contribute to strategic planning initiatives related to product development and market growth

Program Execution

  • Ensure design deliverables are completed on time and within scope
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks across projects
  • Support successful transition of products from development into production
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or related discipline is required
  • 7+ years of engineering experience, plus a minimum of 2 years of previous supervisory experience
  • Proven experience in design engineering with actuation, valve, pump, or switch technologies
  • Experience working within aerospace and defense industries, or other highly regulated industries
  • Familiarity with standards such as AS9100, ISO-9001, or APQP
  • Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience managing engineering teams
  • Strong knowledge of actuators, valves, pumps, switches, or similar technologies
  • Experience with product development processes, from concept through production
  • Excellent communication, organizational, problem-solving skills, and emotional intelligence
  • Experience with leadership and team development
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and product roadmap development capabilities
  • Process discipline and continuous improvement mindset
  • Cross-functional collaboration and business acumen
