Job summary

Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes’ Mission Valley Power division seeks a licensed PE Electrical Engineer to supervise engineering staff, prepare cost estimates, orders, and documentation for new construction and MVP system improvements.

You will oversee line construction, substation work, and related design tasks, ensuring NEC/NECwa compliance and customer interaction across the service territory.

Qualifications

  • Must be a graduate engineer.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license, or ability to obtain within one year by exam or comity.
  • Minimum four years' experience involving the engineering of utility power lines with two years of supervising or directing other personnel; or five years of other engineering experience with two years of supervision.
  • Must have knowledge of electrical engineering concepts for distribution, transmission and substations; knowledge of NEC/NECA/RE A standards is preferred.

Job description

DUTIES

Provides supervision, training, technical direction, and guidance to Engineering personnel. Direct the preparation of cost estimates, work orders, documentation, mapping, engineering plans and right of way documentation for new construction and MVP system improvement jobs. Assists in the supervision and operation of MVP's system. Oversees all aspects of line construction. This includes feeder coordination, sectionalizing, economic conductor sizing, construction standards, costing, mapping, right of ways, and other aspects associated with the design and construction of distribution lines. Updates construction standards and policies and ensures their implementation. Performs professional services such as transmission line design, structure analysis, and conductor sag analysis including galloping, CADD development of new standards, magnetic field analysis, line optimizing and substation design. Performs or assists with engineering studies.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The incumbent must be a graduate engineer. Professional Engineering (PE) license, or ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment by exam or comity. Must have a minimum of four (4) years' experience involving the engineering of utility power lines which includes two (2) years of supervising or directing other personnel in technical aspects of engineering or five (5) years of other engineering experience with a minimum of two (2) years of supervising or directing other personnel in technical aspects of engineering of five (5) years of other engineering experience with a minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience. Some experience in substation design and CADD applications. Must have demonstrated experience in working directly with customers. Must have professional knowledge in electrical engineering and skill in electrical engineering concepts, principles and practices in order to perform the engineering duties concerned with distribution, transmission and substations or have demonstrated comparable technical ability. Must have thorough knowledge of the practical application of the National Electric Code, National Electric Safety Code, State of Montana Electric and Inspection Code, Rural Electric Association (REA) and REA construction standards is preferred. Must be skilled at operating computers and related equipment and applying technical engineering software. Must be proficient communicating orally and in writing. This includes the skills to communicate across cultural and educational barriers in a diplomatic and effective manner, especially with the general public of MVP. Valid State Driver's license. Must pass pre-hire drug test and position is subject to random drug testing. Must live within Mission Valley Power's service territory.
