Job summary

MACOM is hiring an Engineering Specialist in Lowell, MA. This entry-point role offers hands-on exposure to semiconductor fabrication, working on the production floor under a 12-hour compressed work week.

You will support various process steps and collaborate with engineering teams to improve safety, quality, and output. The ideal candidate has a foundational background in engineering or physical sciences, with readiness to learn multiple process technologies and to work in a cleanroom

Qualifications

  • Bachelors in Engineering, Materials Science, or Physics required; Master’s preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with thin film processing and process development a plus.
  • Proficiency with Python, SQL, or JMP for data analysis of yields.

Job Description

Shift Engineering Specialist will be assigned to a manufacturing compressed work week shift and will report to the Manufacturing organization and perform general manufacturing duties on the production floor such as fabrication (lithography, etch, metals, diffusion, implant, grind/polish, glassing, dicing or wafer electrical test). Set-up, operate, load, and monitor specialized equipment to ensure quality products are produced. Provide technical support to wafer fab operations and drive improvement to the process resulting in improvements in safety, quality, and output. The successful candidate may have responsibilities that span many process technologies: thin films, photolithography, diffusion/implant, metrology, and/or wet and dry/etch.

Essential Functions
  • Perform a variety of functions in the production of semiconductor devices in a cleanroom environment.
  • Set-up, operate, load, and monitor specialized equipment to ensure quality product is produced.
  • May be responsible for monitoring equipment operation, inspecting final product, cleaning the work environment, and performing data entry. Experienced candidates with metal deposition and evaporator tools experience are preferred.
  • Work on one of our 12 hour compressed work week night shifts (5pm to 5am), or day shifts (5:00am to 5:00pm). All shifts alternate working 3, 12-hour shifts one week (36 hours) and 4, 12-hours shifts the following week (48 hours). Shifts will work either Sun, Mon, Tue alternating Wed or Thu, Fri, Sat alternating Wed.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Material Science, or Physics, Master’s degree is preferred
  • 0-3 years of process development and manufacturing experience in thin film processing including hands-on experience with, FIB, RIE, RIE/ICP/ CAIBE, PECVD, IBE and SEM/FIB
  • Strong analytical capacity and diagnostic ability
  • Proficiency with tools like Python, SQL, or JMP for tracking manufacturing yields and analyzing process variations.
  • Ability to sit or stand for 12 hours at a time.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Great work ethic and willingness to work in a structured production environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and approach tasks with detail-oriented manner.
  • Required to wear a cleanroom suit and/or proper safety personal protective equipment.

RSU Eligible

Hourly Range

The Hourly Range for this position is $37.00 – $50.00 per hour. Actual salary offered to candidates will depend on several factors, including but not limited to, work location, relevant candidates’ experience, education, and specific knowledge, skills, and abilities.
