Job summary

Dorman is seeking Engineering Interns for Summer 2027 to assist the Mechanical Engineering Service Team in design, prototyping, and metrology. You will work on CAD models, prototype parts, and documentation, presenting your project details to leadership at the internship's conclusion.

The program emphasizes learning, with hands-on experience in 3D scanning, additive manufacturing, and process improvements within a Lean/5S environment.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with vehicle systems, including body and electronics, is preferred.
• Experience with 3D CAD/CAM is preferred.
• Knowledge of 3D printing and/or machining is a plus.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Demonstrated communication ability.

Responsibilities

Job Summary

Dorman is seeking several Engineering Interns to join our team for Summer 2027. In this internship, for 10 weeks, you will play an active role on the Mechanical Engineering Service Team, a support group to the Product Engineering organization, specifically within mechanical design, prototyping, and metrology teams. Performance will be monitored to assure learning and development is happening and you will be expected to present project details to our leadership team at the conclusion of the internship.

Education / Experience

• Actively pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or similar engineering-related discipline preferred, but not required

What the Intern Will Learn

During the internship, the student will have the opportunity to:

• Learn how to scan, model, and print a mechanical part.
• Understand the nuances of 3D scanning and additive manufacturing.
• Gain opportunities to improve the tools and processes the team uses every day.

The US base rate for this full-time position is $21/hr. The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will depend on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge and skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal pay equity. Compensation decisions are made based on the specific facts and circumstances of each role and candidate.
