Job summary

Huntsville Utilities in Huntsville, AL, seeks a qualified project manager to oversee small engineering construction and expense projects from planning through delivery. You will coordinate cross-functional teams, vendors, and stakeholders to meet scope, schedule and budget objectives.

Under close supervision, you will facilitate project meetings, track milestones, and communicate risks and mitigations. A BS degree and 2 years of PM experience in utilities are required.

Qualifications

  • Two (2) years’ project management experience, preferably within utility or related fields.
  • ABET-accredited engineering/construction/related degree is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, plan, and evaluate projects using standard project management methodologies.
  • Liaise between project members, cross-functional teams, vendors and stakeholders to ensure deliverables, schedules, cost and goals.

Job Statement

Under close supervision of the Manager, manages small engineering construction and expense projects from planning through delivery. Liaises between project members, cross-functional teams, external vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure deliverables, requirements, schedules, cost, and meeting plans are communicated. Utilizes appropriate tools to plan project timelines, tasks, milestones, and deadlines. Communicates schedule and changes to all stakeholders. Plans and facilitates project meetings to align the project team to methods and goals and to track project tasks. Monitors task completion status to identify at risk project tasks and to develop mitigation plans.

  • Coordinates, plans, and evaluates projects using accepted project management methodologies.
  • Coordinates project activities with internal cross-functional teams, other governmental agencies, and private sector partners and contractors.
  • Prepare, monitor, and maintain project schedules to ensure that projects are completed on time.
  • Communicates scheduled tasks and milestones to team members and communicates schedule changes to all stakeholders.
  • Schedules project meetings and plans reviews with appropriate stake holders.
  • Prepares and distributes agendas, meeting notes, and project summaries.
  • Monitors and manages project costs to ensure that the project is completed within budget.
  • Maintain and distribute project cost reports.
  • Communicate risks to project budgets as they arise and develop mitigation plans as necessary.
  • Compiles and distributes project information, project status reports, and project budget expenditures; provides regular updates to management, project teams, and others of project status and related issues.
Additional Duties
  • Coordinates and responds to requests for changes from the original specifications.
  • Assists in developing project budgets, schedules, work plans, resources requirements, and cost estimates and projections.
  • Assists in initiating projects, obtaining authorization and commitment, and demonstrating business need and project feasibility.
  • Ensures projects are closed out in accordance with HU policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements

Education/Training/Certifications: BS Degree, or higher, in Business, Construction Management, or Engineering, or degree conferred within six months of hire. Engineering degree must be from an ABET accredited program. Degree or expected graduation at end of current semester required to be able to interview for position.

Experience/Skills: Two (2) years’ project management within utility or related project management experience with integrated business (e-Builder, NISC, and ESRI systems preferred).

Additional Requirements

Operation of Equipment: Calculator, personal computer (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point), telephone, vehicle.

Physical Demands/Environmental Conditions: Primarily sedentary office work, frequent field visits to project sites, some exposure to inclement weather for field checks or emergencies.

Other Considerations: Very organized with good written, oral and interpersonal skills. Subject to call out after normal working hours. Current driver’s license.
