Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a senior water resources engineer to lead drinking water projects in Rhode Island. You will plan, design, and manage distribution systems, storage, reservoirs, and treatment facilities, with a focus on PFAS and emerging contaminants.

You will oversee hydraulic modeling, master planning, client engagement, and coordination with regulators, subconsultants, and internal teams to deliver on-time, on-budget solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, or related engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required, or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in drinking water system planning, design, and infrastructure projects.
  • Strong expertise in water distribution hydraulics and modeling tools such as WaterGEMS, InfoWater, and EPANET.
  • Familiarity with PFAS treatment technologies and evolving regulatory frameworks is highly desirable.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of water treatment processes, including filtration, disinfection, and advanced treatment systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while delivering high-quality results on time and within budget.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and GIS preferred.
  • Experience with State Revolving Fund and USDA Rural Development funding programs is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to engage effectively with clients, regulators, and team members.
  • Visa sponsorship is NOT available for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the full lifecycle of drinking water projects.
  • Plan and design water distribution systems, storage facilities, booster pump stations, and treatment plants.
  • Oversee design of elevated tanks, ground storage reservoirs, and clearwells.
  • Evaluate and design PFAS and emerging-contaminant treatment solutions using GAC, ion exchange, and membrane systems.
  • Conduct and supervise hydraulic modeling, capacity analyses, distribution master planning, and lead service line programs.
  • Perform water quality assessments and support compliance with federal and state drinking water regulations.
  • Manage project teams, internal staff, and subconsultants, with responsibility for scope, schedule, budget, and quality.
  • Prepare and present technical reports, plans, specifications, cost estimates, and client deliverables.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies and support permitting efforts.
  • Provide construction-phase services, including submittal review, RFIs, field observations, and startup/commissioning support.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineering staff.
  • Build and maintain client relationships.
  • Support proposal development and strategic business development initiatives.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and engage directly with clients and stakeholders.
