Our defense aerospace client is hiring an Engineering Project Manager to join their team. This company builds one of the most sophisticated small tactical unmanned aircraft systems in the US military inventory - a gas-powered, fixed-wing Unmanned Aircraft System that takes off and lands vertically and is actively fielded by US and allied forces for day and night reconnaissance and surveillance on land and sea. You will lead development, manufacturing, and sustainment of this system, reporting directly to the Chief Engineer and owning the master schedule and risk register across multiple concurrent hardware projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Own and maintain the master engineering project schedule across all phases, from proposal through production launch and sustainment
  • Drive weekly goal-setting and progress reviews with project teams, keeping meetings focused and efficient
  • Ensure all hardware deliverables stay on track: drawing release, BOM, work instructions, configuration control, lead times, inspections, manufacturing trials, and verification testing
  • Identify risks and issues early, assign ownership, and remove obstacles so project teams can stay focused on core deliverables
  • Build work breakdown structures with team input; analyze critical path, dependencies, free slack, resource utilization, and cost
  • Produce weekly status briefs and materials for project reviews
  • Maintain and prioritize the project backlog, ensuring regular review and disposition
  • Develop and improve the engineering PM function, its processes and tools
  • Manage engineering change (EC) documentation and technical administrative work not otherwise assigned to the project team

Requirements:

  • BS or higher in mechanical, industrial, electrical, or aerospace engineering
  • 5+ years as a product development engineer with direct ownership of the full development cycle: design, drawing release, supplier selection, prototype testing, pre-production problem solving, and production launch
  • 5+ years managing engineering projects and cross-functional teams through all phases of design and development
  • Proficiency building integrated project schedules in MS Project or equivalent, including critical path, dependencies, free slack, resource utilization, cost, and risk
  • Working knowledge of UAS systems and subsystems

Preferred:

  • PDM/ERP experience
  • Experience managing software development to DO-178 airborne certification standards
