Job summary

Starbucks is seeking an Engineering Program Manager for Capital Planning and Portfolio Management to own and optimize the enterprise capital program. You will lead capital system governance, portfolio development, and investment business case validation across multi-site operations, partnering with Finance for budgets and forecasts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering with business/finance focus such as an MBA.
  • 7+ years of engineering experience.
  • 7+ years in capital portfolio management, planning or project delivery.
  • Experience administering or owning a capital management or PPM system.
  • Experience supporting a multi-site capital portfolio in consumer products, food manufacturing or distribution environments.
  • Proven leadership of cross-functional teams and partnership with Finance on capital budgets and forecasts.
  • Advanced project management skills (e.g., PMP certification preferred; PfMP a plus).
  • Expertise in capital portfolio management, stage-gate governance and FEL methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Own the capital planning and portfolio management function for the enterprise capital program.
  • Oversee capital system management, governance, and processes end-to-end.
  • Develop and maintain the annual and multi-year capital plan with prioritization and funding reallocations.
  • Partner with stakeholders and Finance to develop and validate the business case for investments.
  • Apply the Enterprise Stage Gate Process so that projects advance on consistent readiness criteria.
  • Provide spend, forecast and performance reporting to leadership and project teams.

This role contributes to organizational success by owning the capital planning and portfolio management function for the enterprise capital program. The Engineering Program Manager, Capital Planning and Portfolio Management delivers five core functions: Capital System Management – administering the systems, workflows, standards and governance that run the capital process end to end; Capital Portfolio Management – building and maintaining the annual and multi-year capital plan, prioritizing and phasing investments, and reallocating funding as business conditions change; Investment Business Case – partnering with stakeholders and Finance to develop and validate the business case for each investment; Enterprise Stage Gating – applying the Enterprise Stage Gate Process in partnership with the PMO so that projects advance on consistent readiness criteria; and Reporting – producing the spend, forecast and performance visibility that leadership, Finance and project teams rely on to make investment decisions. The role operates across the Global Supply Chain manufacturing and distribution network and serves as the single point of accountability for capital portfolio data integrity.   • If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job‑related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
