Job summary

Medtronic is seeking a seasoned engineering leader at the Rice Creek site in Fridley, Minnesota. You will drive design and development of medical devices or software, directing teams through from concept to market release and coordinating with external partners to meet milestones.

The role emphasizes cross‑functional collaboration, regulatory awareness, and rigorous documentation across product lifecycles. A strong background in systems engineering and project management is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree or 3 years with an advanced degree.
• Experience leading and managing processes, projects, and initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Plans, directs and implements all aspects of the company's design and development of new medical device products or software systems.
• May develop, evaluate, implement and maintain technical quality assurance and control systems or reliability systems and standards pertaining to materials, techniques, or company products.
• Oversees the investigation and evaluation of existing technologies.
• Guides the conceptualization of new methodologies, materials, machines, processes or products.
• Directs the development of new concepts from initial design to market release.
• Manages feasibility studies of the design to determine if capable of functioning as intended.
• Monitors documentation maintenance throughout all phases of research and development.
• Organizes the coordination of activities with outside suppliers and consultants to ensure timely delivery.
• Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

• Practical experience leading and managing the execution of processes, projects, and initiatives within a defined functional area.
• Advanced knowledge and skills within a specific technical or professional discipline.
• Understanding of how work impacts other areas of the organization.
• Bachelor’s degree required (or, for degrees earned outside the United States, a degree that meets the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A)).
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree, or an advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

Nice to Have

• Experience in the medical device or other regulated industry (FDA, ISO 13485, design controls).
• PMP, PgMP, or Agile certification (Scrum, SAFe).
• Experience managing large, complex, or global engineering programs.
• Familiarity with systems engineering, hardware/software integration, or connected devices.
• Experience working cross‑functionally with R&D, Quality, Regulatory, and Manufacturing teams.
• Experience with program management tools (Jira, Smartsheet, Azure DevOps, MS Project).
• Demonstrated ability to manage external partners or vendors.
• Experience with budget tracking, resource planning, and executive‑level reporting.
• Experience supporting product development from concept through commercialization.
• For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Benefits & Compensation

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$142,400.00 - $213,600.00

This position is eligible for a short‑term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
