Project Overview
Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company partner to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland. Bechtel will serve as the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor, responsible for designing the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant and constructing the entire facility.
Job Summary
This position reports to the Project Planning Manager and oversees the planning and scheduling of engineering procurement scope. It reports progress, initiates actions to ensure program objectives and schedules are met, and ensures work is performed within requirements and quality expectations. The role is located in the Reston, Virginia office.
Part‑time telework: The position requires at least three days of in‑person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in‑person schedules will be determined by the individual and supervisor in consultation with functional or project leadership.
Major Responsibilities
Leadership and Organizational Management
- Lead the planning and scheduling organization for the engineering scope.
- Provide leadership to planners executing day‑to‑day planning activities.
- Conduct performance management, mentoring, and capability development for planning personnel.
Planning & Scheduling Governance
- Lead all schedule development, integration, maintenance, and monitoring for the engineering scope.
- Ensure adherence to planning and scheduling standards, procedures, and governance aligned with contractual and corporate requirements.
- Maintain configuration control of the approved baseline schedule and support project change management processes.
- Ensure compliance with Earned Value Management and project controls requirements.
- Oversee schedule quality, logic integrity, and consistency.
- Align engineering schedule tasks with other functions (procurement, construction, etc.).
Schedule Analysis, Risk & Recovery
- Direct schedule analysis, forecasting, and performance evaluation activities.
- Develop schedule recovery and mitigation strategies when required.
- Provide strategic recommendations to project leadership regarding schedule risk and execution options.
- Support commercial, change management, and claims avoidance/resolution efforts through schedule analysis.
Reporting & Executive Interface
- Oversee preparation and presentation of schedule status, forecasts, and performance metrics.
- Serve as subject matter expert supporting project controls leadership, senior project leadership, and client reviews.
- Communicate complex schedule issues clearly to project controls management, executive management, and stakeholders.
- Support integrated project reporting and decision‑making processes.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) with 10‑13 years of relevant experience, or 14‑17 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Demonstrated experience leading large planning and scheduling organizations on major capital projects.
- Legal right to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship.
- Must pass nuclear security screening requirements and obtain and maintain unescorted access to a nuclear power facility.
- Must pass pre‑employment drug screen and background check including verification of employment, education, and travel.
- Advanced expertise in Primavera P6 applied to complex EPC projects.
- Experience and demonstrated skill in directing engineering and construction planning and scheduling functions, including schedule development, control, and analysis.
- Extensive experience integrating engineering, procurement, construction, and startup schedules.
- Strong understanding of construction execution methodologies and field planning practices.
- Proven ability to establish organizational processes and governance frameworks.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder alignment skills.
- Demonstrated capability to influence senior project leadership and construction execution decisions.
- Experience addressing complex project issues requiring evaluation of multiple variables and competing priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to work with people of varied backgrounds and objectives.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Nuclear power project experience, particularly new‑build or first‑of‑a‑kind projects.
- Experience working within regulated or owner‑oversight environments.
- Experience managing planning organizations exceeding five personnel.
- Experience supporting multi‑contractor or consortium delivery models.
