Ubuntu Server is the world's most popular Linux distribution on cloud and bare metal. In this role, you will manage the team responsible for software that manages access to all professional Ubuntu offerings.

This software runs on every major Ubuntu release and is regularly updated across all of them. Your team will own continuous integration and verification across releases and underlying platforms.

You will have full ownership of the product, influencing its evolution and collaborating with teams and partners to develop new features, enhancements, and integrations.

What you'll do

• Build and lead a globally distributed engineering team
• Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and career development
• Collaborate with Product Management to define vision and strategy for Ubuntu and your team
• Set and manage expectations with engineering teams, management, and external stakeholders
• Promote modern, agile software development practices
• Develop and advocate for engineering and organizational best practices
• Foster a healthy, collaborative engineering culture aligned with company values
• Participate in leadership and collaborate with other organizational leaders
• Contribute to engineering processes through code and architectural reviews
• Engage with teams at Canonical, the open source community, and partners
• Oversee quality of the Ubuntu Server image family
• Plan and deliver Ubuntu Server features
• Work remotely with global travel for up to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events

Who you are

• You are passionate about developing and growing people, with a proven track record
• You have strong knowledge and enthusiasm for software development
• You have 3+ years of experience leading, managing, coaching, and mentoring software developers; experience managing distributed teams is a plus
• You focus on success and delivering high-quality, timely software
• You have experience working in an agile environment
• You hold a Bachelor's or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or related field
• You possess strong written and verbal technical communication skills in English
• You have experience with modern GNU/Linux distributions, preferably Debian or Ubuntu
• You have practical experience with at least one cloud platform: Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or Amazon Web Services
