The Security Engineering Manager plays a crucial role in safeguarding millions of users worldwide, leading a team of security experts committed to protecting the open-source ecosystem and fostering innovation. Your leadership will be vital in addressing emerging threats, developing security measures, and maintaining the integrity of Ubuntu. This position offers an opportunity to make a significant impact on the digital landscape.

The security engineering team's primary responsibility is to respond to threats and secure the open-source ecosystem for community and enterprise users. Your work will involve addressing CVEs and vulnerabilities across Canonical products, engaging with the community and customers, and coordinating with multiple engineering teams.

An Engineering Manager in this context is responsible for line management, career guidance, developing engineering talent, representing your team technically, and fostering collaboration both internally and externally.

What you will do in this role
  1. Lead and develop a team of engineers, from graduate to senior levels
  2. Provide technical guidance on vulnerability remediation
  3. Drive the development of new security projects
  4. Collaborate with upstream open source projects on vulnerability management
  5. Mentor team members and support career development
  6. Monitor and improve team health indicators
  7. Implement disciplined engineering processes
  8. Represent your team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers
  9. Promote best engineering and organizational practices
  10. Plan and oversee progress on goals and projects
  11. Participate actively in the security engineering leadership team

  • Exceptional academic background from high school through university or a compelling alternative path
  • Degree in Computer Science or STEM, or equivalent experience
  • Proven drive and ability to exceed expectations
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Experience in developing and mentoring people

  • Strong background in software development, support, and maintenance
