Job summary

Milhouse is seeking a Transportation Design Manager to lead our downtown Chicago design team, guiding highway plan development for Illinois projects and maintaining strong client relationships.

You will mentor staff, ensure QA/QC across projects, and contribute to business development while delivering billable work such as IL 38 phase II and IL 251 phase I/II designs. Illinois PE is required and a culture of innovation is encouraged.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Civil Engineering.
  • 10+ years of highway/roadway design experience with team leadership.
  • Illinois PE registration required.
  • Experience with transportation design software (Bentley MicroStation, OpenRoads).

  • Lead and mentor transportation design team from concept to final design.
  • Oversee highway plan development and production for Illinois clients.
  • Maintain client relationships and support business development.
  • Ensure QA/QC on every project.

Job description

Transportation Design Manager

Milhouse is looking for an energetic and driven Transportation Design Manager to join our downtown Chicago office.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage a transportation design team, providing mentorship and technical guidance
  • Oversee and assist with the development and production of highway plans and specifications from start to finish for Illinois clients
  • Maintain / grow positive client relationships and assist with business development efforts to continue expansion of our transportation project portfolio
  • Coach, mentor and develop staff
  • Promote a culture of innovation and work-life balance
  • Assure that Quality Assurance/Quality Control is being performed on every project
  • Work on billable projects for a majority of your time. Initially, this will likely include IL 38 phase II plans, IL 251 phase I/II, and final design for five Illinois Tollway plaza
Qualifications
  • Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills, with the ability to motivate and mentor a team
  • Technical background and experience managing projects for transportation agencies (IDOT, CDOT, Tollway, or transit/rail agencies) that utilize Bentely Microstation, OpenRoads or other transportation related software packages
  • Excellent time management and problem-solving abilities, with keen attention to detail and quality
  • Robust organization and communication skills as required to create / execute project plans and respond to client requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Civil Engineering
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience designing highway/roadway projects which includes 5 years of managing multiple design teams performing the work
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Illinois is required
