Job summary

The Recruiting Hive is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead sustaining product efforts in Waterloo, IA. You will guide a team of design engineers, drive engineering priorities, and ensure cost-efficient, reliable product platforms that meet safety and regulatory standards.

You will oversee design changes, collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain, and champion continuous improvement across existing product lines, aiming for manufacturability, quality, and on-time delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of product design engineers responsible for existing product platforms and production support.
• Establish engineering priorities and allocate resources based on production requirements and cost-reduction opportunities.
• Collaborate with other engineering managers to maintain consistent standards across the portfolio.
• Provide hands-on technical guidance and engineering oversight in day-to-day operations.
• Own ongoing engineering support, maintenance, and evolution of existing heavy-haul trailer platforms.
• Lead design improvements to enhance manufacturability, durability, reliability and cost efficiency.
• Investigate and resolve design-related production issues and warranty concerns.
• Apply root-cause analysis, DFMEA, and customer feedback to identify improvements.
• Lead design reviews and evaluate proposed changes for technical accuracy and compliance.
• Partner with Manufacturing Engineering to improve fabrication, weldment design, and assembly methods.
• Improve drawings, BOMs, and design release processes.
• Drive design-for-manufacturability and cost-reduction initiatives.
• Provide timely engineering support to resolve manufacturing challenges.
• Work with Supply Chain to evaluate material and design alternatives for cost and availability.
• Oversee engineering change notices and ECOs, ensuring changes are implemented correctly.
• Maintain product architectures and engineering documentation throughout lifecycle.
• Support standardized, pre-engineered offerings to reduce custom engineering.
• Identify opportunities to simplify configurations and improve repeatability.
• Maintain engineering databases, CAD tools, and documentation systems.
• Ensure designs comply with FMVSS, DOT, and internal requirements.
• Collaborate with Quality, Warranty, Customer Service, Sales, and Operations to address technical questions.
• Communicate engineering decisions clearly to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
