Job summary

The Washington Post is seeking an Engineering Manager, Subscriber Experiences to lead the team responsible for core platforms that support the end-to-end subscription business. You will oversee backend services, frontend applications, cloud infrastructure, and cross-functional workflows to ensure scalable, reliable operations.

You will guide engineers, drive modernization of critical platforms, and balance immediate business needs with long-term architecture, reliability, security, and health.

Qualifications

• Strong people leadership with track record of growing engineers.
• Experience with backend services, frontend apps, cloud infra, and production systems.
• Proficiency in Java and Node.js in large-scale subscription platforms.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop engineers responsible for critical subscription platforms.
• Set priorities and empower teams to own systems and decisions.
• Define technical direction for subscription operations and related workflows.
• Partner with Finance to ensure accurate representation of activity in financial systems.
• Guide modernization of legacy systems to reduce complexity and increase reuse.
