Job summary

Scale AI, Inc. is seeking an Engineering Manager for its Public Sector unit in the US.

You will lead a 6–8 person software engineering team building core products and infrastructure for government customers, while staying close to code and people management. The role balances technical planning (50%) and people leadership (50%), with cross-functional collaboration and a requirement to commute to the SF office three times per week.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of full-time engineering experience after graduation.
• 2+ years of engineering management experience leading a team.
• Strong software development experience.
• Experience scaling products at hyper-growth startups.
• Interest in AI technologies and public sector applications.
• Proven track record mentoring and leading teams.
• Excellent communication and collaboration with non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Recruit a high-performing engineering team.
• Drive engineering productivity with guidance, mentorship and technical leadership to a team working on Generative AI projects.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and execute a strategic roadmap.
• Navigate and deliver outcomes while complying with federal requirements and frameworks.
• Design and implement scalable backend systems for Federal customers using Scale's cloud-native AI infrastructure.
• Develop distributed systems, data-intensive applications, and ML infrastructure for real-world impact.
• Build robust backend systems that serve as standalone products for customers.
• Engage with customers to understand requirements and deliver innovative solutions.
• Contribute to the platform roadmap and product strategy for Scale AI's Federal business.
• Have or obtain a TS/SCI clearance.
